CLUB NOTES

13th August 2013

Annual Golf Classic

Get your clubs and swing ready because this Saturday 17th August all roads lead to the scenic setting of Clones Golf Club for our second fund raising golf classic event which has kindly been sponsored by Aidan & Marie Murray of Mullinahinch House Private Nursing Home. The golf classic is an important fund raiser for the club as well as being a great social occasion and the day will begin at 8.00am with the first team teeing off followed by nineteen holes of challenging golf. On behalf of the club I want to thank all the teams and tee sponsors for supporting our golf classic and we look forward to a wonderful day of good golf, good fun and I hope the weather and playing conditions are kind to you all. Best of luck to all golfers and keep on swinging!!!

Golf Classic Presentations

The presentation of prizes will take place in Fitzpatrick’s later on Saturday night and there will be music and refreshments on the night so come out, relax and have some fun! Along with the fabulous prizes on offer there will also be some novelty spot prizes for the longest drive, nearest the pin, the most putts and off course the golfer who lost the most golf balls throughout the day. Last year’s winner of this prize Colin Quinn has informed me that he has been practising quite a bit and hopefully he will not be the recipient of this award this time!

Drumlin Credit Union SFL

Our senior team returned to action in the Drumlin Credit Union senior football league last Sunday 11th August and were decisively beaten by a slicker Castleblayney outfit who powered their way to a comfortable victory by virtue of an impressive display. Once again, some basic mistakes in squandering possession cost us dearly as a stronger Castleblayney side penetrated our defence far too easily and were much more efficient and cohesive in using the ball and secured a comprehensive win on as score-line Rockcorry 0-9 Castleblayney 1-21. Please log onto www.rockcorrygaa.ie for a full match report and a selection of action photographs.

Drumlin Credit Union SFL Fixtures

This Sunday 18th August we travel to play Carrickmacross and the match has an early throw-in time of 12.30pm. We are back on the road again on Wednesday 21st August when we travel to take on Doohamlet at 7.15pm and finally, on Saturday 24th August we travel to play league leaders Scotsown and the game starts at 7.00pm.

Flags Flying High

Keep those Monaghan flags flying high and the best wishes messages & banners showing because the Monaghan minor team will play Mayo in the All-Ireland semi-final on Sunday 25th August in Croke Park. Hopefully, at this stage you have placed your orders for tickets and travelling once again to support and cheer on the lads to an All-Ireland Final.

Under 8 Go Games Blitz

A very enjoyable and exciting Go Games blitz was held last Saturday 10th August when our under 8 footballers travelled to Oram to take part in the blitz. This was once again a very enjoyable and successful blitz campaign and the lovely weather conditions added to the excitement with all the children from various clubs across the county having fun and displaying plenty of enthusiasm while playing our National games. It certainly was a fun-filled and action packed couple of hours for the kids as they played matches against Oram, Toome and Ballybay and performed really well and a selection of action photographs can be view on www.rockcorrygaa.ie or our Facebook page. The games provided the boys and girls an opportunity to put into practice what they have learned through our coaching academy and it was great to see them develop their skills and learn the game. It was also wonderful to see so many parents there to support and encourage the children and a special word of mention to the hard working coaches & mentors of all the clubs who freely give up their time voluntarily on a Saturday morning to help organise and look after the future players of the club. Its people like this and many like them across the county and indeed the country that makes the Gaelic Athletic Association so great and special and we appreciate all the work they do. Well done everyone and we look forward to the next blitz with huge excitement and anticipation. Keep up the good work.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12 Div 2B

The under 12 team will return to action this Saturday 17th August when they travel to play Cremartin in the semi-final of the shield competition. The match has a throw-in time of 12 noon and if you’re not taking part in our golf classic I would encourage all parents, and members to show your support on the day and travel to the match and cheer on all the children. Good luck boys and girls.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14

Ruby Wedding Anniversary

On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes to a club great, Jimmy Carroll and his wife Lizzy who celebrated their 40thwedding anniversary recently. Well done folks, it’s a wonderful milestone and we hope you enjoy many, many more happy years together.

Property Damaged

Unfortunately, I have to report that sometime over the last weekend one of our stone entrance piers was damaged by a livestock truck. This is very disappointing and I want to highlight that the carpark is not a public carpark and is private property and should only be used by persons involved in GAA activities or functions. We would appeal and urge everyone to cease using our facilities for any unauthorised parking. It is private property and therefore if you park or use our facilities you will be trespassing.
