Seniors: Our senior footballers begin the championship with a first-round game against Doohamlet in Clontibret on Saturday at 5.30pm (note change of date from Sunday). Best of luck to all involved. We continued our good league form with a 2-10 to 0-10 win at home to Ballybay last Sunday, the crucial goals coming from Emmett McArdle and Conor Galligan. We are also set to host Scotstown in the league on Wednesday evening.

Draw: We are taking part in a ‘Sportspersons Dream’ draw, which offers some amazing prizes. Keep in touch with the club notes, website and social media for full details.

Minors: Our minor footballers returned to winning ways when they beat Emyvale by 2-18 to 1-8 at home last Thursday. Ciarán McQuaid, Evan Morahan, Fearghal McMahon, Jason McHugh and goalkeeper Darragh Hannon were among the scorers as the Harps took a 0-9 to 1-3 lead in at half-time and a couple of goals after the restart gave the lads the foundation to pull away for a comfortable win. The championship match against Magheracloone is now set for Friday, August 30.

Team: Darragh Hannon; Darragh Treanor, Mustafa Gamal, Ahmed Gamal; Turlough Clerkin, Dónal McCarthy, Tiarnán Bramley; Kevin Loughran, James McKenna; Carl Foentjies, Evan Morahan, Fearghal McMahon; Niall Treanor, Jason McHugh (Capt.), Ciarán McQuaid.

Subs used: Shane Dooley, David Carey, Marc Brennan, John Treanor, Pauric Coyle.

U-16: The Under-16 match against Clontibret was postponed last week and will now be played on August 22.

U-14: Our Under-14 Division One team host Emyvale this evening (Tuesday).

U-12: The Under-12 Division 1A shield semi-final against Magheracloone and the Division 2B cup semi-final against Tyholland are both due to take place at Gavan Duffy Park this Saturday. Good luck to all involved. These fixtures are both subject to change, so please check club website and social media to confirm.

Clubhouse: Anyone interested in taking part in the local pool league, please contact Liadhan Treanor at 086 7837204. We are planning to stage a breakfast morning on Saturday, September 8. Keep an eye on the notes for more details.

Hurling: Seniors: The Harps senior hurlers added their second piece of silverware of 2013 with a straightforward win over Carrickmacross in the shield final at Clontibret last Saturday. Despite again being forced to line out without some key players due to injuries, the Harps put in a dominant performance, which saw them lead almost from start to finish. Carrickmacross started with a brace of Jason O’Rourke frees, either side of a Harps point from Brendan McQuaid, but from then on, it was almost all one-way traffic. Alan Lee, Alan Ryan and a brace from Maurice McKenna had the Harps ahead by 0-5 to 0-2 by the end of the opening quarter and points quickly followed from Robbie Healy, Maurice and Niall Hahessy. Robbie added two more before the end of the first half to make the interval score 0-10 to 0-2. After a slow start to the second half, normal service resumed with points from Robbie (free) and Brendan, before Maurice took over with six points in a row, one from play and five from frees. Our lads were also unlucky not to find the net, as Alan Ryan and Raymond Lee found Carrick keeper Jamie Guinan in inspired form. The highlight was yet to come as a superb sideline cut from distance by Alan Lee went over the bar (possibly with the help of a touch from his brother Raymond!) to seal a comfortable win for the Harps, who will now compete in the Ulster Junior Club Championship later this year.

Team and scorers: James Greenan; Micheál Ó Mordha, Jack Lee, Patrick Meehan; Alan Lee (0-2, 1 s-l), Shane Smyth, Páraic Donnelly; Ross Corbett, Niall Hahessy (0-1); Alan Ryan (Capt., 0-1), Maurice McKenna (0-9, 6f, 1 ’65), Conor Curley; Raymond Lee, Robbie Healy (0-4, 1f), Brendan McQuaid (0-2).

Subs: Myles Dwyer for Hahessy (inj., 46 mins), Conor Forde for McQuaid (49), Frank Burke for Curley, Séamus McLoughlin for Smyth (both 53), Conor O’Neill for Donnelly (inj., 55).

Juveniles: Our Under-12s were unlucky to lose out by one point at home to Castleblayney on Monday evening. Having fallen behind in the first half, a great second-half performance saw them lose by the smallest of margins.

The Under-16s followed this with an outstanding team effort to convincingly beat Castleblayney on a scoreline of 8-17 to 1-6. Coaching and games continue every Sunday morning in Rooskey at 12pm.

Féile DVD: A DVD filled with both match and parade action of our Féile winning team is available through the club. Contact team management for further details.

Ladies: Our reserve team is out this Sunday, August 18, at home to Magheracloone at 12pm. All players to meet at 11.15am. On Tuesday, August 6, our seniors defeated Latton in the Division Two league. The team was: Allison Treanor, Dearbhla Lenehan, Laura McManus, Hannah Clerkin, Tessa Fleming, Orla Whelan, Niamh Maguire, Jennifer Treanor, Muireann O’Rourke, Emma Clerkin, Sinéad Maguire (Capt.), Eimear O’Rourke, Éadaoin Maguire, Una Rooney, Aoife Corrigan, Orla Callan, Tiarna Lavelle, Maria Ferguson & Stephanie Keenan. On Friday, August 9, our seniors defeated Carrickmacross. The team was Allison Treanor, Dearbhla Lenehan, Laura McManus, Niamh Maguire, Orla Whelan, Eimear O’Rourke, Jennifer Treanor, Sinéad Maguire, Emma Clerkin, Stephanie Keenan, Orla Callan, Tiarna Lavelle, Aoife Corrigan, Tara Reilly, Eimear Connell, Shauna Hetherington, Hannah Clerkin & Tessa Fleming.  Training details will be sent to all players by text.

Details on the minor competition have been sent to all clubs and this competition will be starting shortly. Our minors will be competing in Division One with Truagh, Donaghmoyne, Scotstown and Emyvale.

U-14 & U-16 training times Thursdays 7-8pm and Saturdays 10.30-11.30am. Please contact Gerard, Catherine or John for further details. Our U-16s played Magheracloone in the league last Thursday. The result was Monaghan Harps 4-13 Magheracloone 4-5. The team was Claire Duffy, Hannah Clerkin, Shannon Donnelly, Emma Clerkin, Laura Duffy, Eimear O’Rourke, Éadaoin Maguire, Emma Veale, Niamh Tibby, Aisling Ferguson and Niamh Corrigan.  The U-16s have now qualified for the semi-final of their competition away to Tyholland. No date available at time of going to press. Our U-14s will be competing in the Division Three knock-out Championship v Aghabog on either August 19 or 21.

Under-10 and Under-12 training this Saturday at 10.30am and Wednesday at 6pm. The U-12s qualified for the league semi-final which was played on Monday at home to Castleblayney. Unfortunately, despite a brave performance by all of the girls, we ended up on the wrong side of the result and were narrowly defeated in this closely-fought encounter.  The panel will be named in next week’s notes.

Best wishes to Michael Morgan, Yvonne Connell and Muireann O’Rourke in this Saturday’s All-Ireland Quarter-Final v Laois in Breffni Park, Cavan at 6pm.

We had a welcome return to training last week of Sinéad McCooey but our joy was only short-lived as she was only home from London on holidays. Sinéad played for London Ladies in the championship at the weekend. Welcome home also to Gráinne Treanor from her travels in Oz.

Finally, Monaghan Harps Ladies GFC has joined the world of Facebook. If all Ladies club members like the page then you will be kept up to speed on all the comings and goings in the Ladies club. A big thank you to Dearbhla for working on this.
