Philips Ireland today, Wednesday, 14th August 2013, named Malachy O’Rourke, manager of Monaghan GAA football team, as the Philips Sports Manager of the Month for July 2013.
On July 21st, in Clones, Monaghan beat the All Ireland champions, Donegal, by 0-13 to 0-7 points to claim their first Ulster final since 1988. Donegal were chasing their third successive Ulster title, and were firm favourites with the bookies.
Malachy O’Rourke was appointed to the Monaghan position in October 2012 having previously managed his home county Fermanagh from 2007 to 2010. Commenting on the county’s performance he said he was “delighted with the effort that the team had put in over the years”.
Co-incidentally the Monaghan minor team clinched the Ulster title on the same day.
