Senior football

During the last week we played two Intemediate league games with very contrasting outcomes. On Wednesday evening we travelled to Truagh to take on the league leaders and with a number of regulars missing we had a tough assignment on our hands. In the first half we didn’t really cope with the free running Truagh team who ran up a big score by half time and eventually finished up easy winners on a scoreline of Truagh 1-23, Currin 1-3.Team and scorers, Fergal Connolly, Dara Brady, Conor Mc Caffrey, Enda McCaffrey, Ben Clerkin, Gerard O Callaghan, Stephen Beatty, Dick Clerkin, (1-1), Francis O Callaghan, Cian North, Ciaran Mc Caffrey, Niall Mc Entee, Kieran Kearns, Philip O Callaghan,(0-2), Paddy Mc Dermott. Subs used, Shane O Connor for Francis O Callaghan. We played Tyholland on Saturday and in a hard fought and tight game we had a good win on a score line of 0-16 to 0-13. Team and Scorers:Fergal Connolly, Sean Brady, Conor Mc Caffrey, Enda McCaffrey, Ben Clerkin, Ciaran Mc Caffrey, Gerard O Callaghan, (0-1), Dick Clerkin, (0-2), Ciaran Kearns, (0-1),  Philip O Callaghan, (0-1). Stephen Smith, (0-2, 1f),  Paddy Mc Dermott, Niall Mc Entee, Jack Mc Carron(0-9,5f,1’45’),  Michael Quigley.Subs used, Dara Brady for Michael Quigley, Shane O Connor for Niall Mc Entee. Stephen Beatty for Paddy Mc Dermott.

No game this weekend and our next game is on Wednesday next at home to Truagh at 8.00 pm.

Reserve Football

Our Reserve team played Blackhill in the semi final in Scotshouse on Monday night last. In a cracking game of football we were narrowly defeated in somewhat strange circumstances. After an evenly contested first half Currin trailed by one point at the break, 0-6 to 0-7. Currin moved two points clear midway through the second half when an injury necessitated a stoppage in play for three minutes.  Blackhill then took the lead with a penalty and Currin despite many missed chances dominated the exchanges and finally equalised in the thirtieth minute. Extra time then seemed imminent, but that didn’t happen and Blackhill scored their only score from play in the second period in the thirty ninth minute and immediately a second one in the fortieth minute. Final score, Currin 0-10, Blackhill 1 -9.This was a gallant effort by a squad who had played tremendously all year to get to this stage. Niall Mc Entee was fantastic all year and finished top scorer, not only in this game but in all our games. Enda Mc Caffrey, Stephen Beatty, Sean Brady and Paddy Mc Dermott continued to give leadership to the younger players and Ryan Beattie, Cian North, Johnny O Connor and Dara Brady responded with a great effort. Shane O Connor and Michael Quigley have recovered from injury to be valuable members of the squad and Ciaran Kearns and Fergal Connolly anchored the team from opposite ends of the field. This was a good campaign for this team especially with the limited resources we have at our disposal and we congratulate them and the management on their committment and achievement, well done. Team and scorers:- Fergal Connolly, Dara Brady, Michael Quigley, Shane O Connor, Cian North, Sean Brady, Stephen Beatty, Paddy Mc Dermott, Enda Mc Caffrey,(0-1) Ryan Beattie, Niall Mc Entee,(0-9), Johnny O Connor, Johnny Smyth, Ciaran Kearns, Paul Mc Avinney. Subs, Seamus Mc Quaid for Johnny Smyth,
