The county senior and minor footballers will attract the vast majority of the attention over the weekend, making for a limited schedule of club games, although there are two reserve league finals on Friday evening.
Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division 1A Final
Clontibret v Scotstown, Friday, 7.45, Tyholland
Clontibret and Scotstown contest the RFL Division 1A Final in Tyholland on Friday.
Clontibret, who finished top of the table with 16 points, one more than their final opponents, are chasing a double after they won the O’Duffy Cup championship last month, while Scotstown are attempting to atone for losing last year’s final to a late charge by Castleblayney. Clontibret ran out narrow winners when these sides met in June and another close game is in prospect.
Clontibret will be looking for big performances from Noel Morgan, Anthony Rooney, Rodney Gorman, David Savage and Eoin and Fergal Greenan, while Paul Grant, Seán Mohan, Damien McArdle and Ciarán and Mark Treanor should have key roles to play for Scotstown.
Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division 1B Final
Ballybay v Truagh, Friday, 7.30, Monaghan
Truagh will be fancied to secure a quick return to the top division of reserve football when they take on Ballybay in the Division 1B Final at Gavan Duffy Park on Friday.
This is a third adult final of the year already for Truagh, who lost to Clontibret in the O’Duffy Cup decider, before putting local rivals Scotstown to the sword at Under-21 level last Friday. Truagh are unbeaten in this competition, having won eight and drawn one of their nine games, while Ballybay won six and lost three.
Ballybay can call on senior players like Colin Malone, Danny Gorman, James Allister, Cillian McAviney and Aaron Toner, but the likes of Barry Cuddy, Daniel Finnegan, Seán McKenna, Niall McQuillan and John McCarron should give Truagh the edge.
Championship finalists Castleblayney and Inniskeen go head-to-head in the Silver Hill Foods Senior Hurling League on Thursday.
There is action in the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football Leagues over the weekend. Oram have two games in Division 2B, first against Rockcorry on Friday and then Seán McDermotts on Sunday. There are also games in Division Three between Éire Óg and Monaghan Harps and Emyvale and Blackhill on Friday, while Blackhill and Éire Óg cross paths on Wednesday.
The GRM Minor Football Leagues continue on Wednesday, including a fourth place play-off in Division Two between St. Patrick’s and Killanny in Cremartin. There is a full round in Division One: Truagh v Magheracloone, Monaghan Harps v Emyvale and Scotstown v Carrickmacross.
