Clones Senior Panel 2013 who defeated Inniskeen in the 1st round of the Intermediate Championship

Seniors: Well done to the senior team on their Championship 1st round success against Inniskeen in Drumhowan last Friday night.  In what would’ve been seen as a shock result to many, it was no more than we deserved.  A fantastic team performance, from 1 to 15 we played some great football.  Clones started off nervously in the first half but two frees form the ever reliable boot of David Freeman settled us in along with scores from Danny Rooney and Daragh Holland, in what was a tight first half played Clones battled hard and successfully turned over possession on numerous occasions, this was the platform for scores from Fintan Kelly and Adrian Alford.  HT Clones 0:06 Inniskeen 0:05.  With all to play for in the second half Clones were quickest out of the blocks with three unanswered points, a free from David another point from Daragh and Eugene Holland, more comfortable preventing scores Eugene came all the up from fullback to score, with Clones now leading by four points things were looking good.  Inniskeen are a serious outfit however and showed why they’re third in the league firing over the next three scores.  With ten minutes to go it was a matter of who wanted it most, Clones disrupted a lot of the Inniskeen attacks forcing errors and mopping up the breaking ball.  With the ball in hand Clones were throwing it about like a good county team, Drumhowan is a tight pitch where fast attacking support play is the key to getting scores Clones were able to do it in style.  David Freeman fired over another two points from play to leave the FT score Clones 0:12 Inniskeen 0:08.  Superb performances from all our players but David Freeman, Micheal Treanor and Paul Shiels really stood out, some of the frees David kicked were top drawer, the defensive play of Micheal and Paul was the foundation of the teams success.  Clones can take great confidence from this win and we look forward to our next championship game.    Team Sheet: Colin McCaughey, Paul Connolly, Eugene Holland, Paul Shiels, Declan McQuaid. Daragh Graham. Micheal Treanor, Daragh Holland, Adrian Alford, Fintan Kelly, Danny Rooney, Ethan Audely, Sarto Quigley, Emmet McEntee, David Freeman Subs used Ciaran Kelly.  Clones played Drumhowan at home last night match report next week.  We play Inniskeen again this Saturday in the league throw-in 7pm, with another big game against Cremartin next Wednesday come and support the lads.

Minors:  St. Tiarnachs have put their feet firmly into the semi finals of both the league and the championship following night.  These fixtures haven’t been fixed as yet owing to the continued success of our county team.  This Clones, Eire Og amalgamation have been doing very well and I would encourage all of you to support this minor team, some of our current and future county stars are on this team.

Under 16’s; following on from a long layoff action started back up again last Friday for our under 16’s in the league against Killeevan, FT score Killevan 2:08 Clones 4:12.   This team is made up of a great squad of young fellas and they deserve to do well with the work they’re putting in at training.  Their next game is against Inniskeen this evening (Thursday- Throw-in 7:15pm).

U14s Div 1 team played Scotstown on Tuesday night last and suffered a heavy defeat against a more experienced team.  All was not lost in defeat however and the lads will learn from this experience.  The Div 5 played Emerald Sarsfields in an extremely entertaining game that ended in a draw.  Division 1 team play Emyvale this Saturday at 1:15pm, support the team, match report next week.

U12 Div 2A U12 Div 2 Team had a great win against Sean Mc Dermotts last Wednesday night in Currin. This team are now through to the Shield Final on Saturday 31st August.

U12 Div 3 Team were not as lucky as they were beaten by Emyvale on Saturday in Emyvale.  Both U12 teams played two tough challenge matches against Drumalee on Monday evening, both teams performed very well in a very competitive game.  These players are really enjoying their football and are a credit to their parents and coaches.

U10s – Their Blitz will be in Clontibret on Sat 24th.

U8s – Training continues on Wednesday nights from 6-7pm.

Congratulations to Ross Adamson and Yvonne Reilly who got married recently, congratulations and the best of luck to you both.

Well done & Congratulations to Lonan Maguire and Darren Freeman who won their Championship Semi-Final last Friday.  Both men played a fundamental role in the win, Darren getting the scores and Lonan preventing them at the other end.  It’s great to see both men playing well and enjoying their football.  Continued success to you both and the team and the very best of luck in the final.
