Championship:-Well, after a wait of 35 days the replay of the Div.1 Final finally arrived !Nobody on holidays,a few minor injuries but nothing to be too concerned about-or so we thought.Thursday evening news came through that mid-fielder Eoin McKearney had injured himself earlier in the day and would be unable to play dealing a major blow to the St.Pats team.Determined to deal with this they lifted their heads and headed for Aughnamullen.
Perhaps because of this St.Pats like before got off to a shaky start with Clontibret scoring after just one minute of play and Adam Counihan having to defend his goals from the off.Paddy ONeill put Pats on the score board kicking our first point with Clontibret following quickly with two more points. After just 7mins it was 0.3 0.1 and Clontibret had got themselves 2 yellow cards.Clontibret found the net on the 14th minute despite the efforts of Adam and Mantas but this was followed quickly with a point taken nicely by Shane Monaghan after great play from Ronan Duffy and Ryan Sherry.A super score by Cormac Duffy worked up the field by Ronan Duffy and Paddy O Neill took Pats score to 0.3 and superb goalkeeping denied Clontibret another goal chance.Ryan McCann replaced James Lavelle after 20mins.and earned his spot by kicking over a point with that lethal left foot, bringing the half time score to Clontibret 1.03 St.Pats 0.4.
Clontibret opened the scoring again after 1 min. followed quickly by yet another point.St.Pats missed two goal chances and another hit the upright before Cormac Duffy hit our first point of the second half after 9mins.At this stage Cormac Duffy (Drumhowan) replaced Jason McEntee.Michael Duffy kicked over another point leaving just 2pts separating the sides.Clontibret when ahead by 3 a minute later following quickly with another point before Ronan Duffy brought back the defecit to 3 with a superbly taken point.Clontibret tried to slow down the pace at this stage but St.Pats were having none of it.Cormac Duffy added to the scoreboard with another point but Clontibret responded with their own score leaving it a 3 point game with 8 mins left on the clock.A cracking goal from Ronan Duffy on the 23rd minute left the sides level on 1.08 apiece.
The next 7 minutes was heart-stopping stuff.Simon Duffy, captain, gathered up his defenders and defended like their lives depended on it.Mid-field and forwards surged forward and created two more scoring chances with Ryan McCann and Paddy O Neill kicking over the winning scores to leave the final score at 1.10 to 1.08 and St.Pats claimed the Francie Connolly Div.1 Cup.A superb team performance .
