Sean’s Notes
Juvenile Fundraiser. A word of appreciation to all runners and walkers who turned out in force to make our 5/10 Km Walk & Fun Run on Saturday evening last a great success. Well done the young juvenile who opted to run the 5km route, many completing the course in very respectable times. First home in the 5km Under 12 category was Marc Melvin, Mathew Mc Guinness and Conor Brennan; U14 saw Ryan Mc Elvaney first home followed by James Murphy and Jon Egiguren. In the U16 age group over the adult 10km route Shane Kelly showed the way followed by Niall Kearns, with nothing separating Patrick Mc Phillips and Jamie Keenan for third spot. Pearse Murphy and Dylan Keenan were first and second in the under 18 age group. In the adult run only seconds separated the first three, local man James Clarke taking the top prize, followed by Shane Brady Clones in second and Mike Keely third. Donna Evans led the ladies home to claim 1st placed, followed by local girls Ciara Mc Guinness and Majella Mc Elvaney in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. While there was an obvious competitive edge for the runners not so for the walkers and it was heartening to see so many strolling at leisure enjoying glorious sunshine and supporting the club in the process. Chefs Adrian and Conor deserve special mention they laboured in the sweltering heat ensuring the barbecued food on offer was mouth-watering delicious as it left the hot griddle. Thanks again to all participants and to the many club volunteers who assisted on the day.
Under 16. Our Under 16 squad gained some measure of redress for their expulsion from the championship at the semi- final stage at the hands of Clontibret when the O Neills visited TMH for their league encounter last week. This again was a closely contested affair with our boys having to withstand extreme pressure from the visitors especially in the closing stages to hold on to their hard earned lead. That they did, and ran out winners on a scorline of Seans 2 -13 Clontibret 2 – 8, doing their chances of securing a league semi final spot no harm in the process. On Thursday evening the play Scotstown in Pairc Mhuire and have a number of tough encounters in the run in of remaining games before they can be assured of being included in the knock out stages of this competition.
