Féile: Our Under-14 footballers represented the club very well at Féile Peil na nÓg last weekend. The lads started with a good win over our host club Naomh Colmcille on Friday, when a strong first-half performance, which saw our lads lead by 2-6 to 0-0, set up a 3-9 to 2-1 victory. An early start on Saturday was no hindrance to another comfortable win over Glenswilly (6-9 to 0-1), but our lads just missed out on winning the group when they lost to a strong St. Brigid’s side from Roscommon. After playing against the wind in the first half, our lads found themselves facing an uphill battle and it was one that proved beyond them, despite their best efforts. See our website and social media sites for full report and photos. Well done to the players and their management of Michael O’Donoghue, Thomas McCabe and Ciarán Mulligan. Thanks to our hosts in Newtowncunningham, everyone who helped the lads raise funds for the trip and everyone who made the journey to support the team. Our lads still have the double to play for via the league. Many of them are away to another Féile this weekend for the hurling in Limerick and the club wishes all involved the best of luck.

Team and scorers (v Naomh Colmcille: Dylan McAree; Seán McKenna, Anthony Greenan, Colin Peppard; Niall Ward, Ultan O’Rourke, Thomas Croarkin (0-1); Aidan Burns (0-1), Ben Kearns-Flynn (0-2); Conor McCrystal, Ethan Murphy, Nathan O’Donoghue (0-1); James Bourke, Michael Mulligan (1-3), Corey McArdle (2-1).

Subs: Adam O’Neill for Bourke, Shane McCabe for McArdle, Aaron Coyle for Ward.

Reserves: The RFL Division 1A is due to resume next Wednesday, when we travel to Magheracloone. Our RFC Division Three Final against Blackhill is currently scheduled for July 20.

Minors: The Minor Football League gets back underway after the break with an away game against Carrickmacross next Tuesday evening.

U-16: The Under-16s exited the championship with a quarter-final defeat away to Clontibret last Sunday. Our lads started well, with points by Darragh Hannon (two), Remy McKenna and Jack Deery, before Remy tapped home the opening goal. A Ruairí Forde point made it 1-5 to 0-1, but our only score of the second quarter was a free from Darragh, allowing Clontibret to get back into it, closing the gap to two by half-time (1-6 to 1-4). It all went pear-shaped in the second half, as Clontibret rattled in three goals in the space of 15 minutes to take charge. A brace of frees by Darragh and a point from play by Shane McMahon was all our lads could manage in response, as they lost out in the end by 4-8 to 1-9. Next up is an away game against Donaghmoyne in the league this Thursday.

Team and scorers: Adam Treanor; Shane McKenna, Evan Cudden, Niall McManus; Shane McMahon (0-1), John Mulligan, Cathal Power; Kevin Lyden, Aaron Woods; Jack Deery (0-1), Paul Peppard, Ruairí Forde (0-1); Remy McKenna (1-1), Darragh Hannon (0-5, 4f), Conor Duffy.

Subs: Conor Flynn for McManus (inj.), Kyle O’Leary for Forde, James Owens for Deery.

U-12: There was no luck for either of our Under-12 football teams last Saturday. The Division 1A team went down to a strong Castleblayney team, while the Division 2B team were edged out by Feargal O’Hanlons. Goals by Brendan Óg Duffy and Lochlainn Power, plus points from Darragh Croarkin and Shay Cooney, had the Division 2B team level at 2-2 to 1-5 at half-time, but despite brilliant goals by Dean Doherty and Ógie in the second half, the concession of a late goal saw our lads fall just short. This Saturday, the Division 2B team are due to host Rockcorry at 12 noon, followed by the Division 1A game against Latton at 1.15. Check website etc. to confirm fixtures.

Team and scorers: Ryan Leonard; Nathan Lavery, Brendan Óg Duffy (2-0, 1-0f), James McKenny; Lochlainn Power (1-1), Dean Doherty (1-0); Tiarnán O’Rourke, Shay Cooney (0-1f), Darragh Croarkin (0-2, 1f).

Sub used: Craig Cooney.

Hurling:

Féile: Well done to the U-14 footballers in Derry last weekend. It’s the hurlers’ turn this weekend, as they travel to Limerick. Good luck to players and management. No doubt they’ll do the club and county proud!

Juveniles: Well done to our U-12s on a good win over Clontibret on Monday evening. The U-16 game was called off due to Clontibret being unable to field. Both teams are away to Truagh next Monday, July 8 at 6.45pm and 8pm.

Seniors: The seniors are back in championship action when they travel to Clontibret on Thursday, July 11 for an 8pm throw-in.

Well done: To Neil McAdam, Conor Galligan, Kevin Loughran, Fearghal McMahon and the Monaghan senior and minor footballers on their Ulster semi-final wins over Cavan in Clones last Saturday. Both teams are now through to the Ulster finals on July 21.

Umbrellas: Monaghan Harps umbrellas have been selling well in recent weeks and there are just a few still available, but a new order will soon be made. Contact Séamus McManus at 086 8167928 for more information.

Cúl Camp: This year’s GAA Cúl Camp at Gavan Duffy Park will take place from July 15-19. See www.monaghangaa.ie for more details.

Handball: Congratulations to Eoghan McGinnity on reaching the One-Wall Handball Nationals U-11 Final. On this occasion Eoghan came a close second to Galway’s Éimhín Ó Diollúin. Score 13-10. Conor McDonnell teamed up with John Moen to win the Plate Doubles.

Ladies: The Senior Championship Preliminary Round was played last Friday, June 28 v Truagh. The result was Harps 0-9 Truagh 5-11. Team: Allison Treanor, Shauna Hetherington, Laura McManus, Hannah Clerkin, Tessa Fleming, Niamh Maguire, Orla Whelan, Muireann O’Rourke, Yvonne Connell, Eimear O’Rourke, Sinéad Maguire (Captain), Emma Clerkin, Una Rooney, Tiarna Lavelle, Éadaoin Maguire, Eimear Connell and Dearbhla Lenehan.

U-14 & U-16 training times Thursdays 7-8 and Saturdays 10.30-11.30. Please contact Gerard, Catherine or John for further details. Our remaining U-16 games are away to Magheracloone and Carrickmacross. The U-16 Ronan Leonard memorial blitz is on Saturday, August 3, hosted by Aghabog.

Under-10 and Under-12 training will be on Saturdays 10.30-11.30 and Monday nights from 6pm-7pm. The U-12 competition started on Monday night with a home game against Scotstown. Unfortunately our girls were defeated by a strong Scotstown team but well done to everyone involved, both players and management.

A big thank you to everyone from the club who collected in Monaghan and Clones on Saturday for the County Board Flag Day.
