McElvaney Recycling Under-21 Football League Division One Final

Scotstown v Truagh, Friday, 7.30, Emyvale

Local rivals Scotstown and Truagh contest the Under-21 FL Division One Final on Friday.

Both teams took eight points from their five league fixtures, with Truagh edging into first place by virtue of their narrow win over Scotstown in a high-scoring thriller back in April. Scotstown have been consistent contenders at this level, most recently winning it in 2011, having lost in the final the previous year. Truagh, who lost out to Emerald Sarsfields in last year’s decider, are backboned by their 2011 minor championship winners.

Scotstown have been missing county senior goalkeeper Rory Beggan, as well as Shane Carey and Stephen Sherry, but they can still call on players like Seán Mohan, Mark and Ciarán Treanor, Ruairí Sheehan and Elliott Maguire. Truagh will be looking for big performances from Daniel, Pádraig, Christopher and Seán McKenna and John McCarron. It is unclear whether either side will be able to select their county minors. Truagh get the nod to make up for last year’s disappointment.

Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship Round 2B

Killanny v Toome, Sunday, 2.00, Inniskeen

Killanny and Toome will attempt to keep their JFC hopes alive when they go head-to-head at Páirc Grattan on Sunday.

Both teams have already fallen to heavy defeats against Seán McDermotts in the championship, although Toome bounced back to grind out a narrow win over Killeevan. Killanny have fared much better in the league so far this year as they are in third place with 14 points, well clear of third-from-bottom Toome, whom they defeated comfortably last month.

Peter Dooley, Steven McMahon, Cian Wakely and Ronan and Tiernan Duffy will be expected to lead Killanny’s challenge, while Toome will need Gavin Flanagan, Mattie O’Reilly, Liam McCooey and Francis Quinn on form if they are to upset the form guide.

Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship Round 2A

Blackhill v Emyvale, Sunday, 3.30, Cremartin

The top two in the Junior Football League clash in the championship on Sunday in Cremartin.

Last year’s JFC runners-up Emyvale have recovered from a less than convincing start to the season to win their last four games and move to the top of the league. Blackhill are just two points behind, however, with two games in hand and they will take confidence from the fact that they rattled four goals past Sunday’s opponents in a league win back in April. This is Emyvale’s first championship outing of the year, as they got a walkover from Feargal O’Hanlons in the first round, while Blackhill have two good wins under their belts at the expense of Killeevan and Oram.

Daniel McMahon, Martin McAree, James Bellew, Seán McMeel and Robbie McHugh will be expected to play central roles for Emyvale, with Colin Woods, Philip Donnelly, Michael Geehan, Dermot Daly and Hugh Byrne among the main men for Blackhill.
