Clontibret Camogie News.

Another good week all round which saw our senior team safely into the Auto McK Senior Championship Final on Sun Aug 25th against Castleblayney, following their convincing win over Truagh on Friday last with a score-line of 3-13 to 0-4. Training has been stepped up in anticipation of the final and all players are asked to keep up the great effort.

On Wednesday evening we play Culloville, in the Armagh League, having been awarded the points from the previous aborted encounter. Throw-in is at 7.30 and players are asked to assemble at 6.45 sharp at the pitch. On Wed Aug 14th Cullyhanna host Clontibret.

Our U-16 team continue their winning ways by defeating Castleblayney today (Tues) – 2-5 to 0-1. Well done to all the players and many thanks to the many parents who turned up to support and help. Many thanks to Michael D – no, not the President! – who ‘umpired’ and Brian my Donnell who officiated at the senior championship match in Scotstown. The next outing for the U-16 team is away to Mullaghabawn on Tues Aug 13th.

Of great importance to our U-16 panel is that a date has been set for the Louth League final – Thursday, August 22nd. Like the seniors it is vitally important that they keep up the hard work in preparation.

Our U-14 team have their final match of the season on Tuesday when they play Port Mór (away). Please be advised that as this match is close to Armagh City (Blackwatertown) transport will be required. Time to be confirmed and notified at the weekend.  Also, on Sat Aug 10th Monaghan are scheduled to participate in an U-14 Blitz in Derry. Marie to provide details.

‘Beginners’ training continues each Thursday at 5pm.

What a terrific surprise awaited the seniors on Wednesday evening last as they arrived to training – Michaela home from New Zealand!! She may have missed last year’s championship but Michaela was determined that there would not be a repeat in 2013 and, despite the arduous air journey and lack of sleep, Michaela was complete with hurl and helmet ‘good to go’! Welcome home Michaela, and let’s hope the 2013 championship is memorable for all the right reasons!

Don’t forget Friday Aug 9th for Eleanor’s farewell dance prior to her departure for the International Rose Festival in Tralee. You can check Eleanor out in the current edition of VIP Magazine – or just come along to the Community Centre on Friday 9th!!! A small number of tickets are still available but better place your order asap.

Birthday greetings to Hannah McSkeane and Niamh Hughes who celebrate their birthdays this week. Congratulations to Karen Kieran who has secured her place in the University of Limerick to do her doctorate. Mmmm … Dr Karen Kieran … it has a nice ring to it!!!

Finally every good wish to Dessie, Vinny and Conor in the All-Ireland football quarter final on Saturday next against Tyrone and Aodh, Mickey and Mick Snr in the All-Ireland minor semi-final against Tipperary on Monday.
