A Huge Congratulations to Fintan Kelly and our treble winning Monaghan teams who were tenacious,   phenomenal, exceptional and extra special in winning their respective Ulster Titles. Muineachain ABU!

Thank you A huge thank you to everyone for all their help in making Sunday’s game the success it was.  Committee members to shop assistants everyone played their part and should take a bow as it showed what the club is all about and the huge team commitment there is.  Thank you all again.

Well Done to Jamie McQuillan one of our Under 12’s who competed in the Half Time games during the Ulster Final. Comhghairdeas Mor Jamie! No doubt this won’t be your first time playing in front of  a big crowd on Ulster Final day.

Well Done to James Mealiff who has made the top 22 in Ulster after taking part in the development process in Jordanstown recently, great things surely lie ahead for this very stylish player.

Trivia: 68 years since Monaghan last won an Ulster Minor Title and if you see him this week spare a thought for Fr. Harry McCarney who was part of that minor winning team in 1945.  A victory he was very proud of and loves to talk about.  Speaking with Fr. Harry during the week he was “overjoyed with the performance of both teams on Sunday, one of the proudest days of my life” he said.  We can all echo his sentiment.  Having been in the missions for decades after the seminary he couldn’t believe that the County Minors’ hadn’t won another title since ’45 until his team mate and neighbour Leo Craig told him. Unfortunately a lot of Fr. Harry’s team mates have passed away and there are as far as he knows only three surviving members of that team,  Tommy Moyna from Scotstown, Brian Finn from Castleblaney and Fr. Harry.  This makes it all the more pertinent that we remember their achievements also this week and hope that we don’t have to wait another 68 years. Leo Craig, Howard Roy and Marty Carroll from St Tiarnach’s club all played that year in a team which was mostly made up of north Monaghan lads.

Great days to be a Gael: “Somebody has said that no man can adequately describe Irish life who ignores the Gaelic Athletic Association, which is true in a way, for football runs women a hard race as a topic for conversation.”
