Best of luck: to Fintan Kelly and both the Monaghan teams who play in their respective Ulster Finals on Sunday. It promises to be a great occasion and we send greetings out to everyone who’s home for the Ulster Final. We also remember those who cannot be here this year for whatever reason, you too are in our hearts and minds on this very special weekend. Muineachain ABU!
Tickets; for the Ulster Final were collected in the club rooms last night, if you haven’t collected your ticket please do so with immediate effect. Tickets are also on sale in SuperValu. There’s already been an unprecedented demand as the Farney army prepares its assault on St. Tiarnachs Park.
Well Done & Congratulations to Jamie McQuillan one of our Under 12’s who has been selected to play in the Half Time games during the Ulster Final. Comhghairdeas Mor Jamie! You can talk to our own Fintan Kelly on tips of how to handle the nerves and playing in front of a big crowd.
Cul Camps: There was an unprecedented turnout last week at the summer camp in St. Tiarnach’s park. With over one hundred attending it was great reward and hugely encouraging as there are a lot of other distractions this week with the good weather etc. “Mol na h’oige agus tiocfaidh siad”. A special treat for all the boys and girls on Tuesday when Maachy O’Rourke and Capt. Eoin Lennon along with Jimmy McGuinness Mark McHugh and Micheal Murphy were there for the media launch od the Ulster final. Well done to all the organisers and participants.
Australian Prodigy: this was the phrase on everyone’s lips following an ‘awesome’ display by young U10 native Australian Sean Leonard (son of John Leonard Cavan Rd.) who scored a phenomenal four goals in a blitz game against Clontibret last week. Our secretary wasted no time in getting all the relevant forms filled out and mark my words Kerry may have Tadhg Kenelley and Dublin may have had Jim Stynes RIP, but in 10 years time we’ll be flying home Sean Leonard to help us win Ulster and maybe even Sam.

Reserves: Clones played Blackhill in a repeat of the Championship Semi-final, back for revenge and playing with great pride Clones displayed some excellent passages of football with Marty Slowey exceptional in scoring the first goal. Clones were dominating midfield with Ethan Audley standing tall in midfield. If Clones had the first twenty minutes of the half, the momentum changed and the impetus was with Blackhill in the last ten minutes of the half with Clones going in at half-time three points to the good. The second half was a nip and tuck, hugely engaging game, with both teams taking some fine scores in the opening twenty minutes. Clones pulled away in the last third and they’ve to thank a hugely industrious midfield for winning this game, the vintage football played by the ‘bomber’ belied his years. Fintan Cunningham along with Shaun Cunningham were excellent with Shaun bagging two goals for his endeavors. Full Time score Clones 4:13 Blackhill 3:07
Minors; were due to play Rock Emmets last Tuesday with the match being conceded. Their next game is against Castleblayney next Tuesday throw-in 8:00 in Smithboro.
Under 16’s; The u-16s played away to Aughnamullen in the league last Thursday in a game which we lost out by 4-9 to 2-6. A game in which we were missing 3 players due to injury the boys fought really hard, and played some fine football in patches. Aughnamullen got off to a fast start and were leading 2-8 to 2-2 @ half time. The boys however never gave up right to the final whistle and in the 2nd half we hit the bar 3 times, had these chances flew in the result may well have been different. The boys have picked themselves up and are now determined to give the league a good rattle after the disapointment of exiting the Championship last week. There is a 4 week break in the games now and the boys will be training hard for our last 2 league fixtures and also the league Semi Finals. Next game v Killeevan on August 15.
Under 12’s: U12 Div 3 team put in a great effort but were beaten by Killeevan last Wednesday. Next game is Sat at 12 in Scotshouse against Inniskeen. U12 Div 2 team played Sean Mc Dermotts on Tuesday 16th, report next week
Under 8/10’s: U10s took part in a blitz last Saturday against Clontibret they played very well including our Australian visitor Sean Leonard who bagged four goals.
Sincere Sympathy to the family of Norman McGarry Fermanagh St. Clones. It was with great sadness that Clones marked the passing of a true gentleman last Sunday. Norman was a huge man who loved football and encouraged all his family to get involved with the club. They all performed well with Gerry playing in goals for the senior team at county level. In later years all the McGarry men could be seen heading up the hill on the way to the big game, Norman, John, Paul and Gerry along with the grandchildren. He’s a huge loss to his family and to the community who have lost a ‘Giant’ of a man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Marina, Sons Gerry, John and Paul, Daughters Annette, Norma, Marina, Siobhain, Niamh and Michelle RIP.
