ROCKCORRY G.A.A.
CLUB NOTES
4th June 2013
Platinum Tanks Reserve Football Championship
Our reserve players were defeated by the narrowest of margins after an epic encounter against Sean McDermott’s in the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football Championship (Crawley Cup) last Friday 31st May. As games go this was right up there with the best with a thrilling end to an amazing game and the large crowd were treated to a fantastic sporting game of football. While we were defeated, the lads can and should be proud of their efforts in a good all-round team performance. Unfortunately, at times our momentum dropped in the second half but it was a brave and mighty effort and they showed a lot of character and great heart to drag themselves back into the game. In an evenly contested game of football you have to make the most of your chances and Sean McDermotts made the most of their chances to secure a victory on a final score-line Rockcorry 2-8 Sean McDermott’s 2-9 and the best of luck to them in the next round of the competition. A full match report and a selection of action photographs can be view on our website www.rockcorrygaa.ie.
Gormley uPVC Senior Football Championship
If you listen carefully, you can almost hear the iconic theme tune from the film Mission Impossible, dun dun dada dun dun, dada dun dun dada dun dun ringing in your ears with our upcoming preliminary round match against Ballybay only a couple of weeks away! The much anticipated encounter in the Gormley Upvc Senior Football Championship takes place on Friday 14th June in Aughnamullen. At 8.00pm. There is no doubt that many people within the county believe this game is a foregone conclusion and have written us off completely. That’s quite understandable, we are the new kids on the block whereas Ballybay have all the county stars and are the reigning county champions and that’s a massive advantage to them. They have great experience in their side and are overwhelming favourites to win the game and indeed considered by many as the top team to retain the title. But we also have some outstanding players of our own and we have showed a lot of character and pride to date in the league campaign and while sadly it is not reflected with league points what better place to shine than on the big stage and the senior football championship and show the entire county that the little guy can, against seemingly impossible odds, achieve something special. Remember lads, believe in yourselves and your team-mates because the difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man’s believe and determination.
