Fashion show: We will be staging a fashion show in the Hillgrove Hotel next Thursday, June 20. This will feature club members and some very special guests. Admission on the night will be €10.

Reserves: We exited the O’Duffy Cup despite a spirited second half performance away to Truagh in last Saturday’s semi-final. We scored just two points in the opening 25 minutes – from Dean Fanning and Brendan McQuaid – allowing Truagh to open up a six-point lead, although Ashley White converted a penalty to keep us in it at 0-8 to 1-2 at half-time. Truagh hit the first two points of the second half, but, despite being reduced to 14 men, two points each from Michael Galligan and Ashley and one each from Dean and Stephen Driver brought us back into it. A late free by Ashley closed the gap to a point, but we ran out of time, losing by 0-13 to 1-9.

Team and scorers: Cónall McKenna; Paul Rushe, Shane Coyle, Aidan Connell; Robbie Moyna, Emmett McArdle (Capt.), Dean McMahon; Stephen Driver (0-1), Evan Doherty; Gary Trappe, Ashley White (1-3, 1-0 pen, 0-2f), Brendan McQuaid (0-1); Niall Greenan, Gerard Gilsenan, Dean Fanning (0-2, 1f).

Subs: Michael Galligan (0-2f) for Trappe (20 mins), Jason McHugh for Greenan (40).

Two important points in the RFL Division 1A were gained with a 1-16 to 2-5 win at home to Latton last Wednesday evening.

Points by Ashley White (free), Evan Doherty and Shane Coyle and a goal by Gary Trappe set us on our way, while Brendan McQuaid and Niall Greenan were also among the scorers, although Latton got a goal just before half-time to close the gap to 1-7 to 1-2.

Stephen Driver and Gerard Gilsenan added their names to the scoresheet, before Ashley (two), Shane, Evan and Niall (two) sealed our second consecutive league win.

Team and scorers: Cónall McKenna; Gary Trappe (1-0), Rónán Garvey (Capt.), Aidan Connell; Robbie Moyna, Paul Rushe, Dean McMahon; Shane Coyle (0-3), Stephen Driver (0-1); Evan Doherty (0-2), Ashley White (0-3, 1f, 1 ’45), Brendan McQuaid (0-1); David Loughran, Gerard Gilsenan (0-2), Niall Greenan (0-4).

Subs: Jason McHugh for Loughran, Mustafa Gamal for Rushe, Finnian McKenna for Trappe, Craig Connolly for Gilsenan Conor Forde for Doherty.

We are at home to Killanny in the RFL Division Three next Wednesday.

U-14: Our Under-14 Division Five team play Emerald Sarsfields in the championship final at Clontibret this evening (Tuesday) at 6.45. The lads defeated Scotstown in the championship semi-finals last Tuesday. Stephen Ward got our only score of a low-scoring first quarter, which ended with our lads trailing by 1-1 to 0-1 and although Dáire Martin got a goal back, the lads were still 1-3 to 1-2 down at half-time. Some fine scores by Corey McArdle, Colin Peppard, Aaron Coyle and Oisín Fagan helped the Harps lead by 2-8 to 2-4 after the third quarter and with Adam O’Neill driving the team forward from midfield and Dylan Maguire adding his name to the scoresheet, our lads held off a late charge from Scotstown to win by 3-10 to 3-9.

Team and scorers: Brendan Óg Duffy; Seán Conway, Shane McCabe; Aaron Coyle (0-1), Stephen Ward (0-1); Adam O’Neill (Capt.), Colin Peppard (1-4); Dylan Maguire (0-1), Corey McArdle (1-2); Killian McAdam, Dáire Martin (1-0).

Subs: Lorcan O’Rourke, Oisín Fagan (0-1), Killian Conlon.

Both Under-14 teams have away games in the league on Saturday, with the Division One side in Magheracloone and the Division Five lads again playing Emerald Sarsfields, this time in Oram.

U-12: The Under-12 Division 1A team lost out away to a strong Carrickmacross team last Saturday. The Division 2B team are away to Tyholland next Wednesday at 7pm.

U-10: For the second year in a row, our Under-10 footballers travelled to Carryduff in Down last Saturday. The lads once again represented the club, county and their management of Jimmy Croarkin and Pádraig Callan very well, reaching the semi-finals of the Peter Cassidy tournament, only to lose out to Belfast side St. Brigid’s.

Panel: Ben Myers, Tiarnán O’Rourke, Liam Conway, James McKinney, Nathan Lavery, Dean Doherty, Darragh Croarkin, Shay Cooney, Adam McGarry, James Corley, Diarmuid McGee, Ryan McSkane, Seán Callan.

Hurling: On Monday, our Under-14s will take on Carrickmacross in the league final at Blackhill at 8pm. The lads will be aiming for the double after winning the championship back in April. All support for the team would be greatly appreciated. Everyone involved with the U-14 setup would also like to thank John Bogue Motors for the generous sponsorship of new jerseys.

The next Senior fixture is at home to Truagh in the Championship this Thursday at 8pm. Last week’s fixture versus Castleblayney was postponed due to a bereavement within the club, so this marks the start of the championship and the team will be eager to get off to a winning start.

The combined community of Monaghan Harps Hurling Club would like to offer their sincere condolences to our club member Seamus McLoughlin and his family on the passing of his father, Bill, last week. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Umbrellas: We now have a number of Monaghan Harps umbrellas for sale. Contact Séamus McManus at 086 8167928 for more information.
