Castleblayney remain on winning trail

There was no stopping this Castleblayney side as they retained their League title when they came out on top defeating Truagh in the Senior League Final in O’Neill Park, Clontibret on Friday evening last. Playing with a wind advantage they dominated the first half boasting a six point lead at the interval.
Truagh were first of the mark when Yvonne Connell raised the white flag in the 5th minute and within 5 minutes Eileen Mc. Elroy responded for ‘Blayney with a converted ‘45 . Castleblayney surged ahead by three points in as many minutes coming from Niamh Brennan, Mc. Elroy and Kate Deasy before Orla Mc. Meel pointed for Truagh after a twelve minute lapse, when she connected with a save from the ‘Blayney goalkeeper. Mc. Meel was once again was on target when she converted a free four minutes later.
Niamh Brennan who penetrated the Truagh defence attempted a goal chance which was deflected by Truagh goalie Aine Mc. Kee and got her name on the scoreboard from the resultant ’45. Mc. Elroy converted a free a minute later before her sibling Mary sent one to the Truagh net.
Truagh who were chasing the game for the duration of the first half responded with a point from play when Mc. Meel split the posts in the 27th minute and Emma Forde completed ‘Blayney’s half time score with a point on the whistle

With just a minute on the clock in the second half Truagh’s Siobhan Mc. Kenna got one past the keeper to lower the deficit to three points but within ten minutes, ‘Blayney and Truagh’s free takers Mc. Elroy an Mc. Meel swapped points and Mary Mc. Elroy got the final score for the ‘Blayney side in the 12th minute when she slotted one over the bar.
Truagh who were in control of the second half continued with their scores, with points from play from Siobhan Mc. Kenna and Orla Mc. Meel but time ran out and their side finished up with a two point deficit. All in all this was a game of two halves but Castleblayney were victorious in the end to claim the Senior League title back to back.
Before presenting the Cup to ‘Blayney Captain Orla Mc. Carthy, Asst. Chairperson of the County Board, Teresa Lam congratulated both teams on a great performance and thanked the Clontibret G.A.A. for the use of their facilities and also thanked the referee Philip Mc. Donald from Cavan and his umpires.

Monaghan V Kerry
Monaghan take on Kerry at a halfway venue in the All Ireland Junior B Championship on Sunday next Monaghan have been relegated to this division as they were unable to field in last years Junior A Series due to the fact that we were not up to the mark at the higher division . Training continues in Cloghan on Friday evening at 7.30pm. Will Clubs please ensure that all their county girls attend the last session in preparation for our forthcoming match with Kerry on Sunday.
County U16 Team
Monaghan who are participating in the U16 C Championship are at home to Roscommon this Saturday, venue and time TBC. The girls have been training hard and are well prepared under the Management of Paul Monahan and Marie Greenan. Please support these girls who have put in a lot of effort.
Nutrition and Health Foundation and Camogie Association launch second annual Hurl Smart week
Activities in clubs all around the country
The Camogie Association have launched the second annual Hurl Smart week, in partnership with the Nutrition & Health Foundation. Running from the 17th to the 23rd there is a programme of activities for all ages, males and females in a number of clubs across Ireland as well as tips on the website to encourage people to Hurl Smart increase their activity levels and get healthier.
Activities are free and open to members and non-members of Camogie clubs. Fun activities for all adults and children of all ages and genders include Wall Ball Marathon and a Skills star Challenge.
Hurl Smart week aims to encourage people all over Ireland to get active, even just a little per day. One in 10 children watch three or more hours of television on an average weekday and 66% watch for between one and three hours.[1] If some of this TV time was substituted for 60 minutes of a moderate level of activity, we could reverse the obesity epidemic and give our children a healthier, happier future.
