Senior Football

Our seniors had a mixed bag of results last week.

First up was an away fixture in Cremartin, and as usual when we go to Shamrock Park we had a right arm wrestle of a match.

Our Achilles heel appeared yet again as we gave away 2 early goals within the first 8 minutes.

The lads fought back but unfortunately the deficit proved too much as we went down by a score line of 2-10 to 0-08.

Wednesday’s defeat left Sunday Morning’s home fixture against high flying Currin a must win game to remain in top 4 contention.

We opened the Scoring with a point from Matty McKenna, however Currin responded well and tagged on 3 points without reply.

Points from Paul and Ronan Meegan got the game back at 3-3 and another brace from two Meegan lads took us into a 5-3 lead.

Currin answered back well and scored 2 points which brought the game into the half time break all square on 5 points apiece.

Inniskeen came out in a good frame of mind after the break and Matty scored 2 unanswered points thanks to the powerful domination of Big Gerry McArdle in midfield.

The 2 teams traded points (Ronan) which brought the score to 8 – 6, then Paul Meegan converted a few frees to extend Inniskeen lead to 10 points to 7.

Again there was very little between both teams as both pinned on further points, ours came again from the trusty boot of Paul Meegan.

However Currin showed why they are a top 2 team and came surging back into the last ten minutes of the tie with 2 unanswered points which brought them within a point from us (11-10).

However up stood Man of the Match Matty McKenna to put the tie to bed with the final score of the match (his 4th point of the day).

This was a very important win for the Grattans, its moves us up to forth in the table and sets us up nicely for the second half of the IFL campaign.

Team and scores: Pauric Dowdall, Stephen Callan, Fra McArdle, Trev Hillard, Colm Meegan, Anto Keenan, Mixie Lennon, Gerry McArdle, Seamy Loftus, Mickie Fitz, Paul Meegan (0-05), Matty McKenna (0-04), Doni Meegan, Ronan Meegan (0-03) and Alan Ryan.

Replacements Eugene Mc Ardle for Mixie Fitz, Padraig Garland for Doni Meegan

Intermediate and Senior Championship

We were blessed with the weather and a good crowd last Sunday to watch a championship double header in Pairc Grattan.

As usual the grounds looked in fantastic shape for the matches between Corduff/Tyholland and Carrick/Latton.

Tyholland edged out Corduff in a very entertaining game and Carrick left the grounds thinking what if? as they went down to Latton.

We have another Double header this coming Sunday 23rd June, it’s an Ulster Ladies football championship day out between Antrim v Fermanagh (IFC) 5.30pm and Armagh v Tyrone (SFC) 7.00pm.

We thank all the effort put in by the committee and Stewarts and we call them into action again this week at 4.30.

See you there.

Champions

It was a glorious evening in Blackhill for a game of hurling on Monday evening last when our young U 14 hurlers took on the old enemy Castleblayney.

It took them a while to get going until Aidan Woods steadied the ship and scored the first of some classy points that any top hurler would be proud of.

The second quarter seen Inniskeen move through the gears with points from Andrew Woods, Ciaran Mc Nulty and Aidan Woods.

There was some excellent work rate from the two Dylan’s (Dylan Mullholland & Dylan Curtis) right through the match.

The Occasion can’t be let go without mentioning our Goalkeeper, his back and half back line. What a performance they gave holding Blayney to a single point up until the 3rd quarter.

Castleblayney came back and got two late goals but the Grattans kept firing over the points from Padraig Mc Gahon, Dylan Mullholland and a late goal in last quarter from Andrew Woods sealed the game.

The Young Grattan’s celebrated their win with refreshments in the Old Coach Inn in Castleblayney thanks to Raymond & his staff

Well done boys to the boys in Green, it was a great team effort.

We would also like to thank mentors Pj Boyle & Mary woods for their effort in bringing this great young team though. The future is looking bringt indeed for Inniskeen Hurling.

Inniskeen Camogie Notes

Seniors:

Training continues every Monday evening at 7.30pm. Championship season is almost upon us and intensity at training has been upped a notch considerably with many a great tussle being fought on the pitch.

Skirts:

The club would appreciate if any former players who still have a skirt in their possession to please return it.

We are in Grattan Park every Monday evening and skirts can be dropped off there or alternatively arrangements can be made to collect elsewhere.

Finally heartiest congratulations to Julianne Finnegan and JJ Smith on their recent engagement.

Our U14 team concluded their participation in the Louth U14 camogie league on Friday night with a final round fixture away to St Anne’s.

Played in the most inclement weather conditions it took the girls a little while to get into the swing of the game. Nonetheless Inniskeen dominated possession and by the middle of the first half registered their first score, a goal.

This seemed to give the boost that was needed and from there on Inniskeen took full control of the game. On the few occasions St Anne’s threatened the Inniskeen defence, the threat was quickly snuffed out. Inniskeen went on to register a further three goals giving a final score of 4 goals to no score. The win means that we finished mid table and sounds a very positive note as this is only our second year in competitive underage matches. A big thank you to the Mams who helped with transportation and braved the terrible weather to cheer on the team.

Our U12 team played out a very competitive game against neighbours St Bride’s on Sat last. This is our first time in this competition and is proving to be a very valuable experience for our young camogs.

The result did not go our way in the end but the game itself was end-to-end stuff and was marked by a terrific team display. There are further fixtures to play and we’re confident that a win is not far off for this energetic bunch!
