Clones

June 18th, 2013

Congratulions to James Mealiff who is taking part in the Ulster GAA Elite camp in Jordanstown over two days this week, this stylish young player is going places and we’re delighted to see him doing well, the Club is at the centre of this young players mind and we wish him well.

Congratulations to Eoin McQuaid who took part in the U16 County challenge match against Leitrim last week, Eoin played very well wasting no time in getting himself on the scoreboard.  Monaghan lost narrowly but can be encouraged by some individual performances.

Best of luck to Jake Reihill who’s going under the shaky handed knife on Thursday to correct an ongoing shoulder injury.  He’s a big miss on the field and we hope to see him back in action very soon.

Senior Team; The Senior team played Currin last Wednesday the 12th June in Scotshouse.  This was a much anticipated game as there’s always great rivalry between these two clubs.  Much could be said about the “gamesmanship” and indeed the man in the middle, what is best left unsaid or discussed al length, was the poor Clones performance in the 2nd half.  Leading 1:03 to 0:04 at half time Clones were more than in the game, this changed drastically in the 2nd half leaving a full-time score of Clones 1:05 Currin 2:11.  Team; Ciaran Morgan, Paul Connolly, Paul Shiels, Eugene Holland, Daragh Graham, Declan McQuaid, Danny Rooney, Ady Alford, Fintan Kelly, Daragh Holland, Darren Freeman, David Freeman(0:04)(F), Ethan Audley, Sarto Quigley (1:01) and Emmet McEntee. Some introspective analysis is required by both team and management to get the ship back afloat following two poor performances.

Reserves:  Our Championship Semi-Final against Blackhill on Friday last also ended in a tale of woe as we were beaten on a scoreline of Clones 0:09 Blackhill 2:11.  Although not quite as bad as the scoreline suggests Clones failed to show the football they’d shown against Clontibret the previous week, conceding 1:02 in the final minutes.  Their next league encounter was against Emyvale away yesterday, match report next week.

Minors; There’s a break for four weeks now with the county championship getting underway our next minor match is against Rock Emmets away on the 9th of July.

Under 16’s; are back in action this evening against Eire Og throw in 7:30pm. this match is in the big field and your support as always would be fantastic.  Match report next week.

Under 14’s; The U14 Clones/Currin Division 1 and Division 5 teams were away to Truagh on Saturday last the Division 5 team had a good win with talisman Tiarnan Monaghan playing great stuff at full-forward. The Division 1 team also played very well but were unable to turnover a very good Truagh team.  They’re next games are Division1 team against Inniskeen throw-in 1:15pm and Division 5 team against Truagh at 12pm, support the lads if you can.

Under 12’s: the under 12’s played Killany away on Tuesday, match report next week.

Under 8/10’s: A blitz took place for our Under 10’s on Saturday in the big field, there was a great attendance with six clubs fielding teams, it’s heartwarming to see the effort that the players and their coaches are putting in.  “Mol na h’oige agus tiocfaidh siad”, encourage the youth and they will achieve. Thanks to SuperValu for supplying the fruit. Training continues now on Wednesday’s from 6-7pm in the big field.

Sincere Sympathy to the Clerkin Family on the sudden and tragic death of Darren late last week.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Helen and family on their loss. Ar Dheis de go raibh a h’anam dilis.
