U-12 Spring League Finals

By cshalvey Thu 16th May

There was a feast of football in Cloghan last weekend, when the Gerry’s Prepared Veg. Under-12 Football Spring League Finals took place. No less than 38 teams contested 19 games – two on Friday and 17 on Saturday – in conditions which, typically for this ‘summer’ so far occasionally resembled all four seasons, with the sun shining in between bursts of rain and even hail. As usual, the games were run off in efficient fashion, with four pitches in use throughout Saturday morning and afternoon.

The action got underway on Friday evening, when Doohamlet edged an exciting game against Carrickmacross and Donaghmoyne got the better of Clontibret.

Saturday’s proceedings started with a narrow win for Cremartin against Rockcorry and a victory for Donaghmoyne’s second team at the expense of Feargal O’Hanlons. In the 12 noon games, there were wins for Aughnamullen against Toome, Emyvale versus Seán McDermotts, Ballybay over Killanny and Monaghan Harps B against Aghabog. Monaghan Harps completed a double when their first team defeated Inniskeen, while Clones/Currin pipped Tyholland by the minimum margin and Corduff and Oram both had three scores to spare against Castleblayney B and Emyvale B respectively. Castleblayney’s first team were impressive winners against Truagh, while Magheracloone and Latton B had strong wins over Drumhowan and Clones/Currin B and Inniskeen edged a close game against Scotstown B. The final games of the day threw in at 3pm, when Carrickmacross were convincing winners against Éire Óg, Latton saw off Scotstown and Killeevan proved too strong for Magheracloone B.
