Presentation of Corn Colmcille to Christopher Hanratty, Captain Patrician High School

Patrician High School Carrickmacross, Corn Colmcille Champions 2013

Patrician High School Win Corn Colmcille in style

The Patrician High School took the Corn Colmcille back to Carrickmacross after playing a terrific game in beautiful conditions in Silverbridge. From the throw in, Patrician were relentless in their quest to win. Barry Kierans knocked over the first score of the match settling any nerves from a free. As the first half developed we saw Oran Martin leading the way with an outstanding display at wing half back. Fionnan Cassidy raced through on goal and rattled the crossbar; the rebound fell to Jack Gillick who fired to the back of the Bessbrook net. From that point the Patricians never let up and made it look easy. A superb goal from Ciaran Mc Nulty after a fine passage of play from six players resulted in Patrician leading 2-3 to no score after twenty minutes.

In the final ten minutes of the first half, Bessbrook came back in to it and kicked three fine scores in a row. But a fine individual point from Andrew Woods and another from a free by the same player saw Patrician widen the lead. The High School kept up the momentum pushing on with a Woods free that dropped short, but was punched to the back of net by Jack Gillick. Barry Kierans tagged on another point from a free to leave the half time score 3-06 to 3 points.

The second half saw Bessbrook turning up the pressure scoring 3 un-answered points. Then a mix up in defence left Beesbrook in for a goal, a chance they took and did not miss. Bessbrook pushed on and tried very hard to level the scores. The Patrician defence was outstanding; the discipline shown was a credit to such young players. Conor Mc keown leading by example, with a man of the match performance, supported by the Christopher Hanratty and Seamus Kindlon helped the High School hold out under Bessbrook’s relentless pressure.

Sub Oisin Wilcox made an immediate impact hitting the inside of the Bessbrook post and a minute later took a fine score to swing the momentum back with the High school. Sean Burns put in a serious performance, blocking and tackling and always open for the defence and attack. With true grit examples like these, the Patricians regained their composure and Jack Gillick fired to the back of the net to get his third goal of the game and send the excellent high school supporters delirious. Another point from the outstanding sub Oisin Wilcox and a fine goal by Dylan Mc Cahey was the icing on the cake in a stupendous team effort.
