Monaghan’s minor footballers had a comprehensive win over Antrim in the Ulster MFC on Sunday, although the senior hurlers were unable to build on a fine first half – powered by two Brian McGuigan goals – when they lost out to Donegal in Saturday’s Nicky Rackard Cup semi-final.
An Ulster ladies football team backboned by Monaghan players won the inter-provincial tournament at the weekend. Managed by Gregory McGonigle and captained by Donaghmoyne’s Sharon Courtney, Ulster edged out Connacht in the final, thanks to late points from Monaghan duo Caoimhe Mohan and Ciara McAnespie. The full Monaghan representation was: Linda Martin, Sharon Courtney, Cora Courtney, Amanda Casey (all Donaghmoyne); Gráinne McNally, Aoife McAnespie, Ciara McAnespie (all Emyvale); Caoimhe Mohan, Eileen McKenna (Truagh); Christina Reilly (Magheracloone); Ellen McCarron (Aghabog); Yvonne Connell (Monaghan Harps); Laura McEnaney (Corduff).
Seán McDermotts and Blackhill had wins over Toome and Killeevan respectively in the Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship over the weekend.
Clontibret beat Castleblayney in the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division 1A on Saturday, while Magheracloone conceded to Latton on Sunday. Division 1B leaders Truagh got a walkover from Drumhowan, while Tyholland and Ballybay beat Doohamlet and Cremartin respectively. Donaghmoyne had a big win against Corduff in Division 2A, while Aughnamullen were similarly easy winners over Truagh in Division 2B. There were wins for Éire Óg and Monaghan Harps at the expense of Clones and Aghabog in Division Three, while Feargal O’Hanlons conceded to Clontibret.
Killanny eased to victory against Aughnamullen in the McElvaney Recycling Under-21 Football League Division Two on Sunday.
