Doohamlet GFC Notes
Seniors: Our Senior team had two games last week with two very different outcomes when we played Ballybay at home last Wed evening and Clontibret away on Sunday last.
Doohamlet 0 10 Ballybay 1 06
Doohamlet caused an upset on Wednesday evening last with a well deserved one point win over County champions Ballybay in this keenly contested Senior League fixture.
A magnificent defensive display by the home side laid the foundation for this victory holding a formidable Ballybay forward line to only two points from play. Doohamlet played against a strong wind in the first half and led at half time 0 07 to 0 04 with Barry Mc Ginn tormenting the Ballybay defence.
In the second half Ballybay started brightly and soon had the scores level. The remainder of the half was an end to end contest with Doohamlets defence outstanding. Our half back trio of Niall Connolly Colin Walshe and Kevin McArdle were immense with their tackling and numerous turnovers. Martin Hughes marshalled a fullback line with Jason McElroy and Gabie Casey who has just returned from injury and all held firm when Ballybay threw everything into attack in the closing stages. Ciaran McManus and Greg Duffy battled all through and kept a supply to our forwards where as stated earlier Barry Mc Ginn caused havoc finishing top scorer with six points, five from play. Ted Duffy Mark Murphy and Ollie Hughes worked tirelessly throughout and Toby Boylan had arguably his best game in a blue jersey with a defensive role. On a negative note Paul Mc Ardle picked up an early injury to curtail his contribution but still caused problems when moved to full forward.
This is back to back wins for Doohamlet and with players slowly returning from injury we can look forward to the weeks ahead and build on this momentum.
On Sunday last we travelled to our fellow parishioners Clontibret and after the excellent performance against Ballybay this was a very different outcome. For whatever reason Doohamlet were very flat throughout and could not impose themselves on a very committed and physical Clontibret side. On a very difficult surface and inclement weather the home team dominated from start to finish and Doohamlet could not match their intensity. Final score Clontibret 1-09 Doohamlet 1-02.
