The Monaghan Coaching and Games Development Committee is working hard to make our games inclusive to all and over the past few weeks we have been running different initiatives for the different groups in the county.
GAA FOR ALL Youth; We held a sports activity day in Cloghan County Grounds on Saturday 18th May for children age 5-15 yrs with Special Needs. Even though we clashed with Communion in the area we had a few enthusiastic participants who took part in all the activities and enjoyed the day, we hope to run this event again soon.
GAA FOR ALL Adult; Each year we hold different events for all the Adult Special needs centres in the County where they are put through their paces playing Gaelic, Hurling, Rounder’s and Relays, this year will be more of the same. We hosted a day of Gaelic games and activities in Cloghan County Grounds on Tuesday 21st May. The 6 centres all took part; Day Activation unit, Steadfast House, Errigal Truagh Special Needs, National Learning Network, Monaghan Training Workshop and Cairde a total of 48 participated on the day. The weather was good and as we were outdoors everyone took part and enjoyed all the activities; we are running this event again on Wednesday 5th June.
Intercultural day “Coaching on the Green” Ballybay 25th May 2013
In keeping with making our games inclusive to all we held an Intercultural day called COACHING ON THE GREEN in Ballybay on Saturday 25th May this event was open to children from all nationalities, creeds, colour and gender age 5-13 years. We advertised in all the local schools, youth clubs, GAA clubs and shops in the area and the turnout was great with 30 children taking part in the fun games and activities, we had music, face painting and balloon making on the day which was a great hit. We held two of these events last year with great success and we plan to hold two more in Emyvale and Monaghan Town over the next few Months.
We would like to thank everyone who took part in the initiatives over the past few weeks and we look forward to working with you over the coming weeks and months. Below is a selection of photos from the initiatives.
