Executive meeting: takes place this evening in the Creighton at 7:30pm. There’s a lot on the agenda and all executive members are requested to attend.
‘I’d Say Red’s Happy’ Probably the most used phrase in Clones Sunday evening was “I’d say Red’s Happy”, in relation to London County Board PRO Declan Flanagan, who witnessed London record their first victory in the Connacht Championship in 36 years with a trilling one point win over Sligo. Although Declan went to London in the late eighties he never lost touch with his native Clones and can be seen home each year for the Ulster Final with his son Jack in toe. Declan’s next visit home will be in his official capacity as London PRO for the Connacht semi final against Leitrim on June 23rd. Good luck Bomber from Clones GAA.
Senior Team; The Senior team played Tyholland on Wednesday last, following two wins from their last three games Clones visited Tyholland with an air of optimism, this was soon dampened however as it took Clones 29 minutes to register a score in the first half, a free from the left peg of Adrian Alford. Clones had ten wides in total for the whole match and were behind at Half-Time 3:06 to 0:03. A much more spirited team came out in the second half and following a lot of hardwork Clones bagged two goals from the ever consistent Emmet McEntee to be within a score with five minutes left. Clones almost drew the game following a fine solo run from midfield by Fintan Kelly which came off the woodwork. Clones had left themselves with too much to do though and Tyholland deservedly took both points. FT 3:10 to 2:07. Team selected; Ciaran Morgan, Paul Shiels, Paul Connolly, Eugene Holland, Danny Rooney, Micheal Treanor, Daragh Graham, Adrian Alford(C)(0:04), Fintan Kelly, Darren Freeman(0:01), Ethan Audley(0:01), David Freeman(0:01), Daragh Holland, Sarto Quigley and Emmet McEntee(2:00). Subs used: Cian O’Connor. Our next match is Currin on the 12th June at 8pm in Scotshouse.
Reserves: The reserves played Eire Og in Round 7 of the league on Saturday evening last in Clones. In a very tight encounter Clones were just edged out by the visitors despite a brace of goals from Colin McCaughey and a third from Daragh Graham. Clones will have to pick themselves up for their 1st Round Championship encounter against Clontibret on Sunday; this is a home fixture with a 3pm throw in and your support is vital.
Minors; There’s a break for four weeks now with the county championship getting underway our next minor match is against Rock Emmets away on the 9th of July.
Under 16’s; the lads Clones played Inniskeen on Thursday last in the big field, a very accomplished display by Clones saw them come out clear winners on the night and great to see them back to winning ways.
Under 14’s; Our A-Team played Killany last Tuesday evening, match report next week. Following on from that the B team play against Scotstown in Scotstown @ 12pm, The A Team against Emyvale in Emyvale @ 1.15pm both games on Saturday. The A- Team are out again on Tuesday next against Monaghan Harps @ 7.30pm.
Under 12’s: Both teams played last Saturday, the A’s against Eire Og, the B’s against Scotstown. Both teams played admirably but were unable to collect the points on this occasion.
Under 8’s; took part in a blitz on Saturday competing extremely well. It’s uplifting to see our youngest teams challenging at this level, it bodes well for the future to see this talent emerging. “Mol na h’oige agus tiocfaidh siad”, encourage the youth and they will achieve.
