Executive meeting: takes place next Thursday evening the 30th of May in the Creighton at 7:30pm. There’s a lot on the agenda and all executive members are requested to attend.
Senior Team; The Senior team played Cremartin on Wednesday last, following an impressive first half display Clones led by 0:07 to 0:02. There were some fine passages of play and great link ups between Paul Connolly and Darren Freeman in particular. Persistent pressure led to frees and the ever consistent David Freeman and Adrian Alford were on hand to convert. The 2nd half was a different story entirely, Cremartin finding the net after five minutes, Clones got the next two scores a point for Sarto and a fabulous ‘45’ from David Freeman. Clones were reduced to 14 men and credit the lads they never dropped their heads, following persistent pressure from Cremartin and with time running out the sides were level. Cremartin took the lead for the first time, Clones levelled again, but it wasn’t to be and Cremartin scored the winner just on the final whistle. Full Time score Clones 0:11 Cremartin 1:09. Team selected; Ciaran Morgan, Paul Shiels, Paul Connolly, Eugene Holland, Danny Rooney, Micheal Treanor, Daragh Graham, Adrian Alford(C)(0:04), Fintan Kelly, Darren Freeman(0:01), Ethan Audley, David Freeman(0:03), Daragh Holland, Sarto Quigley(0:03) and Emmet McEntee. Subs used: Packie McCarville, Eoin Kelly. Their next game was against table toppers Truagh on Sunday at home, Clones played with some great intensity in attack and defence. A goal early in the first half from Danny Rooney followed by a superb individual effort from Darren Freeman left the score at 2:04 to 0:05 at half time. The second half was a much tighter affair but courageous and tenacious play from Paul Connolly and Eugene Holland in defence along with commanding leadership from midfield saw Clones maintain the advantage. The accuracy and tackling back of our forwards was heartening with Emmet McEntee exemplifying this best. Full time score Clones 2:07 Truagh 0:11. Team selected; Ciaran Morgan, Paul Shiels, Paul Connolly, Eugene Holland, Danny Rooney (1:00), Micheal Treanor, Daragh Graham, Adrian Alford(C)(0:02), Fintan Kelly, Darren Freeman(1:02), Ethan Audley, David Freeman(0:02), Daragh Holland(0:01), Sarto Quigley and Emmet McEntee. We then played Tyholland on Wednesday 22nd in Tyholland match report next week. Our next match is the much anticipated local derby with Currin on the 12th June at 8pm in Scotshouse.
Minors; There’s a break for four weeks now with the county championship getting underway our next minor match is against Rock Emmets away on the 9th of July.
Under 16’s; the lads played Killevan on Thursday last, Clones played very well and secured a comprehensive victory. This was to be welcomed as the lads had suffered back to back defeats previously. This will hopefully put the lads back on track. All teams are made up of a panel and no player is bigger than the team that said it’s nice to welcome back James Mealiff, Eoin McQuaid and Daragh McDermott who’ve missed the last few matches through injury. The next fixture for Clones this evening against Inniskeen in the big field, Throw-in at 7:30pm, support the lads if you can.
Development Squad: Well done to our club members James Mealiff, Eoin McQuaid and James MacElwain who took part in the Buncrana cup and Jim McGuigan cup over last weekend. “Mol na h’oige agus tiocfaidh siad”, encourage the youth and they will achieve.
Under 14’s; Our Under 14 Division 1 team played Scotstown away last Tuesday in atrocious conditions. A very much nip and tuck game which Clones can take a lot out of, three late goals put the game to bed in the last quarter and the scoreboard doesn’t reflect the closeness of the game. Final Score: Scotstown 5:10 Clones 1:07. Team Cian McCarney, Cillian Martin, Caoimhin o’Neill McDermott, Dan Connolly, Jack Lynch, Conor Reilly, Ollie Clerkin(0:01), Cameron Dowds (0:01), Matthew Reihill, Kevin Murphy (0:02), Oisin McPhillips, Declan McKernan (1:03), Simon O’Connell, James Cleary and Henry Hipwell.
Our U14 Division 5 team played last Saturday against Emerald Sarsfields in Oram. In atrocious conditions both teams played with great spirit and displayed tremendous battling qualities. It wasn’t to be for Clones on this occasion as Sarsfields edged out winners by four points. Two goals in the third quarter being the deciding factor in the match. Clones/Currin had ample opportunities but an inability on the day to convert into scores cost them the win. Team Simon O’Connell (0:02), Oisin McPhillips, Conor Murphy (1:00), Conor Reilly, Dan Connolly (1:01), Henry Hipwell, James Cleary (1:03), Tiernan Monaghan (0:01). The next match for our B team is in the championship against Emyvale on the 28th throw-in 6:45pm. The A Team play Killany that evening with a 8:15pm throw-in.
Under 12’s: 9 a side played Latton in their spring league final in Cloghan on Saturday 11th. Captain James Cadden led from the front and a solid performance from Hannah in goals, Jenny, Jack and Niall in defence did well for long periods. We now have to wait and see which division we will be placed for the league.
Under 10’s; took part in a blitz on Saturday competing very well. It’s uplifting to see our youngest teams challenging at this level, it bodes well for the future to see this talent emerging.
