Pieta House Well done to all the Club members who took part in the 5k Darkness into Light walk on Saturday morning in Cavan in aid of Pieta House. This was an extremely well supported event and a great cause with over seven hundred taking part. There was a great atmosphere with the camaraderie of everyone there making the task a lot easier than it may have originally seemed seeing as it started at 4am. Special thanks to Shane Connolly, Matthew O’Neill and Eoin Kelly who were among the principal organisers.
Huge Congratulations to Peter O’Connell on his overwhelming achievement in ascending to the summit of Mount Everest. Truly awesome accomplishment! Check his Facebook page and share his journey and experience, with desire to achieve and determination to succeed there are NO LIMITS. Peter did his climb also for Pieta House.
Senior Team; The Senior team played Donaghmoyne in Corduff on Sunday last. In what were tricky conditions with persistent rain and a swirling breeze in both halves. Clones got of to a dream start with Sarto Quigley finding the net on the third minute. Clones enjoyed some good passages of play after that but Donaghmoyne showed great character and tagged on a few fine scores of their own. Clones began to panic a little bit and their rushed play along with the inclement conditions led to errors when it came to the final ball and taking a score. Donaghmoyne are a big team and were causing Clones plenty of problems in midfield and the full forward line. On 22 minutes Ciaran Morgan pulled off a fine save that almost certainly was a game changer, Clones increased the intensity after that to go in at the break three points up 1:05 to 0:05. The second half started similarly to the first and Clones scored another early goal the advantage now six points. Our team now played some fine passages of play with Ethan Audley, Darren Freeman and in particular our captain and talisman Adrian Alford fielding some great ball and distributing excellently. With ten minutes left Clones had a nine point advantage, Donaghmoyne began to throw the kitchen sink at it and whilst our defence stood resolutely to the task their constant pressure was rewarded when Pat McEnaney pointed to the spot. Ciaran Morgan guessed the right way but couldn’t quite get his hand to the ball. Advantage reduced by three, five minutes left and Donaghmoyne found the net again. Was this a case of Deja Vous for Clones? Not today, Clones took the game by the scruff of the neck with Emmet McEntee and Brian McDonald fearless and disciplined in getting the ball away from the danger area. The final whistle was greeted with a sigh of relief as Clones edged out winners by three points on a scoreline of 2:12 to 2:09. Team selected; Ciaran Morgan, Paul Shiels, Paul Connolly, Eugene Holland, Danny Rooney, Declan McQuaid, Daragh Graham, Adrian Alford, Fintan Kelly, Darren Freeman, Ethan Audley, Daragh Holland, Sarto Quigley, David Freeman and Emmet McEntee. Subs used, Brian McDonald, Eoin Kelly, Ciaran Kelly & Edward Treanor. Their next game was against Cremartin at home on Wednesday last 15th of May, match report next week. We have a very busy schedule coming up with games against Truagh on Sunday in Clones at 2pm and Tyholland on Wednesday 22nd in Tyholland, throw-in at 8pm.
Minors; The lads played Inniskeen in Clones on Thursday last the 7th May, in what was a very close match played with great spirit by both teams saw Inniskeen just deny Clones by a point on a scoreline of Inniskeen 1:12 to Clones 2:08. There’s a break for five weeks now with the county championship getting underway

Under 12’s On Saturday last, the U12 Spring League finals were held in Cloghan and both our 11 a side and 9 a side Currin/Clones teams were action. Saturdays opposition for the A Team were Tyholland, our lads got off to a quick start with midfielders Reece Kearns and Conor Smyth picking up plenty of possession, helped by good movement from a forward group of Maitiu Monaghan, Regan Graham and James and Danny Mc Quaid, with James slotting over two good scores. The half back line of Tiernan Kearns and Hugh McDonald attacked at every opportunity, overlapping and providing support and scores from Tiernan. One point down with about 4 minutes left, midfield gained the advantage, a levelling score from Conor Smyth and a fine point from substitute Jordan Mc Cabe adding to his earlier point, gave the lads an 8 -7 win, reward for all their hard work at training and hopefully building confidence for the soon to start summer league. Well done to all. The B-team lost their match but played very well.

First Aid: Martina will be giving a basic First aid course on the 18th May up in the field. It will take most of the morning to complete but it’s essential that as many team coaches and perhaps adult players take this course for both the clubs benefit and their own. Knowledge is power and let’s face it who wouldn’t want to know what to do in an emergency, be it at home or on the field of play.
Comhghairdeas to Brian and Claire Quinn on the birth of their son Conor, Brian a fantastic fullback in his day will no doubt have young Conor togged out in club and county gear come the first round of the championship.
