Maguire Plays for NewYork. Former Club Star Lonan Maguire togged out for New York on Sunday against Leitrim in the first round of the championship. New York got off to a bad start and were never really able to compete on Sunday, it’s a honour to play county football and no more than Lonan deserves. Lonan was a great player for Clones and we sorely miss his presence, leadership and skill. He’s been involved with the team for the last six years, he’s captain of his club team and its great to see him enjoying his football.
Senior Team; The Senior team played Aughnamullen on Wednesday evening in Augnamullen, with improvement required following last weeks performance we played very well in patches to come out on top. In what was a tight encounter to begin with Clones asserted themselves very well to close out five point winners on a scoreline of 1:12 to 1:07. Team seleted; Ciaran Morgan, Paul Sheils, Paul Connolly, Eugene Holland, Danny Rooney, Declan McQuaid, Daragh Graham, Adrian Alford, Finatn Kelly, Darren Freeman, Sarto Quigley, David Freeman, Emmet McEntee, Ethan Audley and Daragh Holland. Emmet McEntee played some great football throughout the game along with the tenacious and talented Darren Freeman, both their contributions are worthy of note. Their next game was against Cremartin at home on Wednesday last 8th of May. Check out our twitter feed and Facebook pages to keep in touch. Match report next week. There’s a change of venue to the match against Donaghmoyne on Sunday, this game will be played in Corduff throw in at 2pm. Supporters always welcome.
Reserves: There is a big gap now until their next game on the 5th of June against Eire Og which is a home fixture.
Minors; The lads were away to Corduff on Tuesday last the 30th of April. Things didn’t go our way and we succumbed to a one point defeat 1:12 to 2:08. in what was a very sporting contest the sides were level on at least four occasions, a very fast flowing game and the lads lost nothing in defeat. Their next match was against Inniskeen in Clones on the 7th May. Match report next week. There’s a break for six weeks now with the county championship getting underway
Under 16’s; the lads match against Aughnamullen last Tuesday May 2nd was one to forget. We were given a lesson and suffered a serious mauling. We were missing a few players but aren’t looking for excuses as it’s all about the panel and not a handful of players. It serves no purpose in posting the scores of these games, lessons can be learned and we’ll move on to our next assignment which was Killevan on Tuesday evening. This was a game that the lads were looking forward to as they mostly all go to Largy College together and are VEC County Champions this year.
Under 14’s; The U14 B team had a good win over Scotstown in division 5 on a score 6-07 to 6-05. In a good open game the team started well and had to withstand a Scotstown comeback in the last quarter. Team James Cleary(2-01), Simon O Connell(0-1), Oisin McPhillips,Conor Murphy(1-01),Conor Reilly, Dan Connolly (1-01), kevin Coogan(1-02), Tiernan Monaghan (1-01), Jamie McQuillan. Training continues for the lads as usual with their next fixture in Currin against Scotstown on the 18th May.
Under 12’s Spring League Finals day is on this coming Saturday in Cloghan, there’ll be a bus leaving the diamond contact Joanne/ Joe Monaghan for details.
Break-in: Thankfully the Club merchandise which was stolen form the window on Fermanagh St. was returned in full. This information which brought the culprits to justice would not have been possible if not for the vigilance of our members, it’s a testament to the cohesiveness of the club. To everyone who passed on the word, shared our post on FaceBook, thankyou, take a big bow, justice has been done.
Club Merchandise: We launched the club merchandise last week, Joanne Reihill presented the range which includes Jackets, Hoodies, Polos, Jerseys etc. available in all sizes and at competitive prices, included in the range is the O’Neills brand, which we all know is very hard-wearing. These are available for order and are on display in Morgans’ window on Fermanagh St. If there’s any confirmation money left after last weekend you could do worse than invest in the club merchandise.
First Aid: Martina will be giving a basic First aid course on the 18th May up in the field. It will take most of the morning to complete but it’s essential that as many team coaches and perhaps adult players take this course for both the clubs benefit and their own. Knowledge is power and let’s face it who wouldn’t want to know what to do in an emergency?
Lotto Results: Jackpot €7,700 results from the draw from Tuesday night will be given on the double next week. Thankyou for your continued support in selling and buying tickets.
