Castleblayney Faughs

Seniors – The seniors had a welcome return to form last Wednesday night as they defeated Carrickmacross 3-10 to 1-06. After a nondescript 1st half, the highlight being a Brendan McElroy goal, we lead by 3 at the interval. The Faughs then cut loose in the opening 10 minutes of the 2nd half adding an unanswered 2-4 to put the game out of Carricks reach with both the goals coming from Aidan Ward.

Junior B – An understrength B team went down to an 11 point defeat at the hands of Clontibret last Saturday evening. Hopefully there will be a better performance this weekend when we face Truagh in the O’Duffy Cup on Friday night at7.30PM in St Marys Park.

Who wants to be aThousandaire – Less than 2 weeks now until our big night in The Glencarn Hotel on Sat June 8th. The show is a professionally run version of the popular tv game show and on the night 8 people will get the opportunity to play for €1000 each. Tickets are now on sale from all committee members and from Declan Loughman Sports, McMahons SuperValu, Ned Kellys and from Sarah Mackin at the Faughs Lotto stand. We’d urge all our members and supporters to come along on the night.
Minors – Well done to the County Minor team this week who recorded a big win over Antrim in the first round of the Ulster Championship, the club was represented on the panel by Mark Kelly.

Under 16 Boys – It was another good week for our Under 16 team who travelled to Tyholland on Thursday night in the last league game before the exam break. After a good opening by the lads were Daniel Duffy continued his goal scoring spree ,Tyholland pulled back to within a point of the lads at half time .With the game ebbing over and back right throughout the second half, the lads managed to keep the one point in front at the end .These lads are working really hard in training and its now starting to show on the day of matches. On the night there were some strong performances from Ruairi Farrell, David Hughes, Andy Mc Mahon and Daniel Duffy. The next league match for the Boys is against table toppers Aghabog in St Marys Park on the 27th of June at 7.30pm.

Under 14 Boys– The boys played Fergal O Hanlons in the Championship in St Marys Park on Tuesday evening at 7.30 pm ,check website and twitter for results. Next for the lads is an away game to Aughnamullen this Saturday ,with throw in at 12pm.Training continues this week on Tuesday and Thursday .This is a very young team but are making good steady progress ,with the focus continually on basic skills which have shown great improvement from the start of the year. Can we ask that all parents turn up for the matches to support the boys

Under 14 Girls – The Girls travelled to Emyvale on Monday night . In a good match the Girls put in a good all round performance with a great work ethic right throughout the team. The match was close right up until the last quarter were a more experienced Emyvale team pulled away from the young Blayney team. Best for the Ladies on the night were Derbhla Mc Quaid, Jodie Mc Quillan and Aine Clarke.

Under 12 – The Development team played their first game in Division 3A against Clontibret .The boys battled hard right throughout the match but were beaten by the better team on the day. It should be remember that this team are all under age again next year and is part of the learning curve for these young players. Best on the day for the development team were ,Fionan Kelly,Sennan O Brien ,Conall Mc Hugh and Odhran Mc Ardle. The Senior team made a welcome return to the Division 1 Coyle Cup after been in lower divisions over the last few years, we travelled to our old friends Scotsown for a very tight and entertaining team .Scotstown started well and led by two goals at half time but this is a tough young Blayney team and they showed their great grit and determination to come from eight points down with ten minutes to go to get a draw. Best on the day for the Senior team were Joey Hughes, Michael Hughes ,Colm Bishop and Joshua Mone.

Under 10 – The boys are playing a challenge game away to Drumhown this evening .Training will take place on Saturdayin the field at 10 am with a full attendance expected. The Boys next series of Go Games is on Saturday 15th of June in Killeevan where Killeevan,Doohamlet,Cremartin and Toome will provide the opposition.

Under 8 – The under 8 were in Drumhown on Saturday to play in a series of matches against Oram ,Drumhown and Inniskeen.The Boys did extremely well in each of the games and continue to show good improvement on the basic skills .Best on the Day for the young Faughs were Ionut Lungu,Sean Bishop,Charlie Mc Quillan and Canice Murphy. Training continues tonight (Thursday) at 6 pm in the field and again on Saturday morning in the field at 10 am. Well done to Daithi Kelly for been this week’s player of the week.

Under 6 – Great to see some more new faces last week ,training continues again in Rath Na Og on Thursday at 6 pm ,all new players and parents are more than welcome, why not take you child along and let them join in.

Faughs Summer Camp – The Faughs Summer Camp sponsored by Mc Mahons Centra this year will form part of the Clubs Gathering programme and will take place from Wednesday the 21st to Saturday 24th of August. The Club will also be facilitating the County Board Kellogg’s Cuil Camp from July 15th to July 19th.Details of both Camps will follow over the next few weeks. We encourage as many as possible to attend both camps.

Lotto – The numbers drawn in this weeks’ lotto, 27th May 2013 which took place in Tavey Bar were 02, 04, 20 and 23. The four lucky dip winners of €50 each were Mark & Aishling McArdle, Latton PO, Pete McMahon, Cairde, Vincent Irwin, Lake View and Ger O’Brien, Drumgarra.. There was no Jackpot winner.
