Adult Team news. On Sunday last at TMH our adult squad surrendered their unbeaten record when they were put to the sword by a much hungrier Killanny team on a scoreline of Seans 1 – 10 Killanny 4 – 6 The foundation for the visitors victory was laid in the first half when the raised four green flags, it was only with the introduction of county net minder Mark Keogh to midfield in the second half that Seans began to get a foothold and eat into that big 0 – 5 to 4 -2 interval lead. But the path to the Killanny net was resolutely defended by an in form Geraldine defence, had the home side availed of all the point scoring opportunities that presented themselves they might have salvaged a share of the spoils. In the end the visitors were deserving of this win, there was no disputing their superiority particularly in that opening period. It will be a lesson not lost on everyone involved with our panel that you cannot give away goals like they did and still expect to remain in contention. On the previous Wednesday night again with home advantage it was they who found the net on this occasion scoring three majors to squeeze past neighbours Eire Og on a score line of Sean 3- 4 Eire Og 0 -10. Training continues at the usual times on Tuesday and Friday evenings
Under 21. On Friday evening last our U21 squad travelled to Emyvale in the hope of improving on their previous outing against Blackhill. From the start it was clear that the lads were determined to make Emyvale work hard for every ball and indeed any score that they were to register. Conor Freeman was impressive as ever in goals with his accurate kick outs making primary possession that little bit easier for James Mc Aleer and Conor McElroy in midfield. Jamie Mc Elvaney and Ryan McGuinness were solid in the full back line with Jamie coming up field to get the first goal of the game with a neat finish. Brian Mc Quaid manned the centre back position very well, and was not to be outdone by Jamie and also got up for a goal in the first half. Adrian Prunty and Colin McElvaney were on either side and done their job with extreme efficiency, being on hand to help their team mates and always using possession well. The midfield pairing got through a lot of work with James breaking a lot of ball and Conor getting forward to kick some excellent scores from range. In the half forward line David Mc Kenna and Pearse Murphy linked play between defence and attack. Danny McNally had a very effective first half, delivering some great balls into the full forward line of Shane Larkin and Kevin McMahon. These two men caused Emyvale all kinds of trouble and were involved in nearly all of the team’s scores. Sean Freeman, Shane Hagan and Conor Kearns were all introduced in the second half and slotted into their positions with ease.
Team: Conor Freeman, Jamie McElvaney, Ryan McGuinness, Adrian Prunty, Brian Mc Quaid (Capt), Colin Mc Elvaney, James McAleer, Conor Mc Elroy, Pearse Murphy, Danny McNally, David McKenna, Kevin McMahon and Shane Larkin. Subs: Sean Freeman, Shane Hagan and Conor Kearns.
Minor The Seans minor squad were in action last week against St Patrick’s (Ballybay-Drumhowan combination). In a very close match the Seans finished up on the wrong side of the result but it was only in the last 5 minutes of an exciting game that the St Pat’s boy got across the line 4-7 to 4-10. Dylan Mc Nally was in fine form and he showed some deft dribbling skills for one of his two goals. Aidan Ward was impressive at centre half forward his long range points were brilliantly taken; he found time to help out at midfield and was on hand to take his goal with some aplomb. At half time the Seans lead 3-5 to 2-5 a penalty in the 2nd half brought St Pats right back into the match. Conor Freeman was superb in goals with his well-placed kick outs and shot stopping saves. Ryan Mc Guinness had the usual task of marking the opposition’s danger man and succeeded in curtailing him. Jamie Keenan and Niall Murphy two younger members of the squad were very composed at the back and put in some timely defensive tackles. In front of them Enda Connolly attacking play caused St Pats a lot of problems, David Mc Kenna and Mattie Mc Guirk on the wings held their end up well. Niall Kearns and Colin Mc Elvaney in midfield made St Pats work extremely hard for possession. Up front Sean Freeman and Luke Killoran caused the visitors all sorts of problems as did Adam O Driscoll his team other goal scorer with his strong direct running at the St Pats rear guard. Pearse Murphy’s physical presence also causing problems for the visitor. Substitutes Dylan Keenan and Paul Bannon slotted in well when introduced as did Ryan Hughes who scored a very sweet long range point. In the end the pressure of playing against the wind in the 2nd half proved too much and St Pats pulled away to win by 3 points in the closing minutes of this game..
