Scotstown

Seniors: Scotstown made a winning start to the Senior campaign with a two point victory at home to Clontibret on Saturday evening, 2-9 to 1-10. Scotstown team & scorers: R Beggan (0-1); E Beggan, D Hughes (0-1), F McPhillips; D Morgan, W Carroll, B McGinnity (2-0); P O’Hara, K Hughes (0-2); P Keenan, P Grant (0-1), E Caulfield; D McArdle, D McCague, S Carey (0-3). Substitutes used: O Heaphey (0-1), S Sherry. The next Senior fixture is away to Latton on Saturday, April 13th.

Juniors: Our C team began their JFL campaign with a defeat away to Seán MacDermott’s on Sunday afternoon. Scotstown team: C Mohan; E Murray, C Treanor, A Carbin (0-2); R McKenna, D McKenna, B McMeel; D F McKenna, D Caulfield; S Rice, T Moyna, A Heaphey; M McKenna (0-1), M McDevitt, N Corrigan (0-7). Substitutes used: N Sherry, C Caulfield , P Sherlock, C McAleer. Their next outing will be a home fixture against Oram on Sunday, April 14th.

Reserves: The B team were in action away to Latton on Wednesday evening, and they have a home fixture against Castleblayney on Saturday, April 6th at 7pm.

Minors: After their first game of the season was postponed, the Minor team finally got their season under way on Tuesday evening away to Truagh. The following Tuesday, April 9th they take on Magheracloone in a home fixture at 7pm.

Under 16: The League season begins on Thursday evening, April 4th with a Division One fixture away to Seán MacDermotts. Throw-in at Threemilehouse is at 6:30pm.

Under 14: The Division One team lost their first game away to Truagh last Thursday evening. Their next game is at home to Emyvale on Tuesday evening at 6:30pm, followed by another home game against Monaghan Harps on Saturday, April 6th at 12 noon. Then it’s the Championship on Tuesday April 9th away to Truagh at 6:30pm.

Under 12: The A team had a win against Monaghan Harps on Saturday, while the B team lost out to their Harps counterparts. The next games are scheduled for April 13th at home to the Clones/Currin combination.

Club Membership: The deadline for Club membership fees is fast approaching – please pay same to Registrar Frankie McCarey as soon as possible. €30 for adults, €10 for juveniles.

Scotstown GAA draw: Tickets for the Scotstown GAA development draw are available online and from committee members priced at €20 each, or three for €50. The draw itself will take place in August.

Handball County Finals: There are three eagerly awaited county finals being played in Scotstown this Friday night. First off at 7pm is the Junior Final between Conor O’Gorman from Carrickmacross and St Mellan’s Eamon Todd. This is followed at 8pm by the Minor final between Emyvale’s Darren Doherty and Eugene McGeough from Bawn. Finally the Senior final at 9pm is between defending champion Terry Kernan from Carrickmacross and Padraic McKenna from St Mellan’s. This is arguably the best ever line-up of handballers to play in the Scotstown venue and the complex will be rocking on Friday night.

County GAA Handball Leagues and Championships: The Tydavnet A team were narrowly defeated by St Mellan’s B team in the GAA League semi-final at the weekend. The county Senior League has reached the semi-final stage, and we were due to play St Mellan’s on Wednesday 3rd April, but this game may be postponed due to injury to a few of our players.

Condolences: Sympathy is extended to the friends and family of the recently deceased including Peter Connolly, Park Road, Monaghan.
