There were good wins for Monaghan’s minor football and hurling teams in semi-finals over the weekend (see match reports).
On the club scene, Scotstown battled to a fourth straight win in the Drumlin Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League away to Doohamlet on Sunday. Kieran Hughes top-scored with 0-5 and Brian McGinnity got the only goal, as the Blues regained top spot from Magheracloone, who had battled past Rockcorry on Saturday. Ballybay are third after goals by Christopher McGuinness and Aaron Toner saw them edge out Latton on Saturday, while Donal Hahessy and Nicholas Treanor were the goal-scorers as Monaghan Harps saw off Carrickmacross on Sunday. Martin McElroy kicked six points as Castleblayney got off the mark with a narrow win in Clontibret on Sunday.
Last year’s relegated senior teams Truagh and Currin continue to set the pace in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League. Late goals from Damian McRory and Eoghan Kelly sealed Truagh’s comprehensive win over Drumhowan on Saturday, while Currin had a similarly convincing win against Tyholland on Sunday, inspired by a Jack McCarron hat-trick. They are joined on six points by Donaghmoyne and Corduff, who have both played an extra game, after they defeated Cremartin and Aughnamullen respectively. Meanwhile, Inniskeen returned to winning ways at the expense of Clones.
Aghabog lead the way in the Eurotech Junior Football League after Sean O’Brien starred in their win over Scotstown on Saturday. Seán McDermotts missed the chance on Sunday to return to the top, as they lost to Killanny, for whom Kevin Crawley, Andrew Kieran and Peter Dooley were among the goal-scorers. Éire Óg edged a low-scoring game against Oram on Saturday to move into a share of second place, while Sunday’s other games saw Toome beat Killeevan and Blackhill come from seven points down to hit three quick-fire goals and catch Emyvale.
Monaghan Harps are top of the Silver Hill Foods Development Hurling League after they hit the Castleblayney net five times on Thursday, while Clontibret and Truagh share second place with Inniskeen. Clontibret beat Carrickmacross, while Truagh ended Inniskeen’s unbeaten start.
Donaghmoyne pipped Clontibret in a high-scoring game on Sunday to move clear at the top of the GRM Minor Football League Division Two.
Clontibret are out on their own at the top of the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division Three after their win over Monaghan Harps on Saturday.
Carrickmacross and Killanny played out a draw in the McElvaney Recycling Under-21 Football League Division Two on Friday, while Seán McDermotts had a big win over Emyvale in Division Three.
