Mr & Mrs Charity Night
The Mr & Mrs charity night, organised by Briege Brannigan, was a great success with St. Mary’s Hall full of people travelling near and far to support a worthy cause with all proceeds in aid of the Cootehill Community Cancer Support Group. The event was hosted by, Northern Sounds Breakfast Roll DJ, Sean McCaffrey and he certainly did an amazing job keeping the crowd engaged and the mood going with his quick wit and sense of humour. The theme of the night was of course Mr and Mrs based on the popular TV show and there were six couples taking part with some slightly more bizarre than others with a few guys sporting some very colourful outfits, but it brought much laughter to a super night. The night was a wonderful occasion and I would like to say a huge well done to Briege Brannigan, her family and her friends for organising the event which was all for a good cause. Briege has asked me to thank all the participants and everyone who went along to lend their support. Also a big thank you to everyone who sold and bought tickets and all the companies and or individuals that sponsored spot prizes or made donations towards the Cootehill Community Cancer Support Group. Wow, what a night…well done everyone.

Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Div 2B
The reserve team travelled to play Oram, in the Platinum Tanks reserve football league division 2B, on Wednesday 24th April and were a little slow out of the blocks and after five minutes were trailing by 1-3 to 0-0. When we eventually got going we registered some nice scores from Lorcan Smyth 0-3 and Andrew Carroll 0-1 to go into the break behind by five points, 1-6 to 0-4. The second half started well with more scores from Dwayne Rooney 0-1, Lorcan Smyth 0-2 and Christopher Greenan 0-1 to close the gap to a single point, 1-6 to 0-8. Unfortunately, we were not able to maintain the momentum and while Lorcan Smyth fired over further two more points, Oram finished the game the strongest and registered some neat points to secure the victory on a final score-line Oram 1-12 Rockcorry 0-10. The next outing for the reserve team in the league competition is on Friday 10th May when they travel to play Castleblayney at 7.45pm. They are on the road again on Wednesday 15th May when they make the journey to take on Truagh at 7.45pm.

On behalf of everyone from the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to convey our congratulations to the Monaghan senior team for winning the division 3 Allianz Football League title with a wonderful performance against Meath last Saturday. Also a massive well done to the Monaghan minor team for winning the Ulster minor league title with a great win over Donegal. Well done lads and keep up the good work for the upcoming championship.
Guinness World Record Attempt
The club will be taking part in this weekend’s attempt to break the record for the largest 3 legged race. It takes place this Saturday 4th May and all participants are requested to be in Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 11.00am to sign-in and register for the event. The race will start promptly at 11.30am sharp. All you have to do to take part in this event is to sell five lines at €3.00 each and the club retains €12 while the other €3 goes to the Cootehill Celtic club. This will be a Guinness Book of Records event and ALL sponsor cards that were circulated must be returned and submitted back to the club, whether used or not. It is also important that you have paired up with a friend and please ensure that you bring some rope or a scarf to tie yourself & your partner together. Hopefully, when successful, this event will break an official Guinness World Record and there will be an official certificate for every participant confirming that you have broken a World Record.
Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12
Our under 12 footballers played Killanny in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Spring League – Zone F campaign and despite putting in a good performance against a strong Killanny side they suffered a 0-4 to 0-17 points defeat. Killanny had the wind behind them during the first half and started very well all over the field and dominated the opening exchanges, firing over some nice points to lead by 0-2 to 0-9 at the break. We came out fighting in the second half and played some good football but while we had plenty of possession we did not reflect this on the scoreboard and squandered a number of good scoring chances to narrow the gap. Killanny on the other hand replied in steady fashion and finished the game strong to record a 0-4 to 0-17 victory. Their next outing will be at the Spring League finals day in Clogan on Saturday 11th May. Time and opposition to be confirmed.

The under 8 footballers competed in their first Go Games blitz of the year when they travelled to Currin last Saturday 27th April. There was a great turnout of boys and girls and it was encouraging to see them all excited and delighted to be back in action! They played four games against Thyolland, Currin, Eire Og and Aghabog and it was great to see all the kids play their hearts out and they served up some entertaining football.
