CLUB NOTES

9th April 2013

Drumlin Credit Unions Senior Football League

Our senior team will play their first competitive match in the Drumlin Credit Unions senior league competition this Saturday 13th April when they travel to play Monaghan Harps at 7.00pm.

Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Div 2B

It was a busy week for the reserve team who first played Sean McDermott’s in the second round of the Platinum Tanks Division 2B league last Wednesday 3rd April and while they gave a spirited performance it was Sean McDermott’s ability to convert possession onto the scoreboard that was ultimately the main difference and the final score ended Sean McDermott’s 2-12 Rockcorry 0-4. Just as the clocks have gone back and with it the extra hour of sunshine has been lighting up playing fields all over the county. In a similar fashion, our reserve footballers lit up Pairc Naomh Mhuire on Saturday 6th April as they bounced back from the mid-week defeat against Sean McDermott’s, to earn a share of the spoils against league table toppers Aughnamullen. This was a highly entertaining game of football and as the scoreline illustrates, Rockcorry 0-12 Aughnamullen 1-9, it was very competitive but played in a very sporting manner. This was a real gutsy performance from the team as they competed better for possession all around the field and showed great courage and commitment right up to the final whistle to secure a crucial point in the league campaign and will certainly be something to build on for future matches. A full match report and a selection of action photographs can be viewed on www.rockcorrygaa.ie

Congratulations

On behalf of everyone in the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to convey our congratulations to the Monaghan senior footballers for attaining promotion to division 2 and wish them all the best in the league final against Meath. Well done lads and keep up the good work.

GRM Minor Football League Div 3

Sadly, last Tuesday evening the minor team, Rock-Emmets (an amalgamation between Rockcorry & Aghabog) were not able to field a team in the GRM minor league game against Killeevan and we were forced to concede the points. Moving forward, due to the small number of players in both clubs we have taken the unfortunate steps to withdraw fully from the minor football league competition. This is a sad situation, but we have to face reality that at this point in time we do not have the players.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12

The next game for the under 12 team is on Saturday 13th April when we play Aughnamullen at Pairc Naomh Mhurie at 12 noon. All players are requested to be in the dressing-rooms no later than 11.30am.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14

The under 14 team commence their league campaign on Saturday 20th April with a home game against Tyholland in division 4.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 16

Our under 16 players will get their first action on Thursday 2nd May with a home game against Tyholland.

Go Games Blitz – Under 10

Under 10 coaching continues tonight Thursday 11th April starting at 6.30pm. The under 10 players will get their first taste of action on Saturday 20th April when they take part in the first Go Games Blitz of the year. It takes place in Fergal O’Hanlon’s between 10am to 12noon. Participating clubs include Fergal O’Hanlons, Blackhill, Sean McDermott’s and Drumhowan.

Go Games Blitz – Under 8

Under 8 and nursery coaching will commence on Saturday 13th April starting at 9.45am. Any children who have not signed up are welcome and can pay €5 membership on the day. The under 8 players will commence their blitz campaign a week later on Saturday 27th April. It will also take place in Fergal O’Hanlon’s between 10am to 12noon and the same clubs will be taking part. A full schedule of Go Games blitzes (dates & venues) has been uploaded onto our website at www.rockcorrygaa.ie so please log on for more information.

Help & Assistance Required

The club is appealing for assistance from any parent to help out with the under 8’s, 10’s and 12’s coaching sessions. We require a small team of volunteers who would take responsibility of helping our trained coaches with setting up drills, looking after footballs & equipment, marking out side-lines, lifting flags etc. This is a small but nevertheless a very important role and we would appeal to anybody especially parents, (ladies/mums) to help out. Should you be willing to give an hour of your time and help out in this ares please contact our Youth Officer Pascal Smyth on 086-8161028.

Mouthguards

Just a gentle reminder that it is now mandatory for all players up to and including minor (under 18) to use a mouthguards in all Gaelic football matches and training sessions. I have uploaded an information booklet onto our website for all parents to read and understand the requirements. Please visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie and click on the link entitled “MOUTHGUARDS”. Should you require any additional information or need anything clarified please get in touch with any committee member.

GAA Disciplinary Procedures

Last Thursday 4th April, I attended a very interesting and informative meeting dealing with GAA disciplinary procedures. I have uploaded a link on our website www.rockcorrygaa.ie where you can download a document entitled the ‘Official Guide – Part 1’ which essentially contains the GAA Constitution and Rules of our Association. Chapter 7, in particular, entitled ‘Enforcement of Rules / Arbitration’ deals with the disciplinary rules and outlines the various infractions, category I, II, III offences and off course the resulting penalties and also details the hearing and appeals procedures. This is the so called Bible of the GAA rules and therefore it is important that as a member of the club, whether you are a player, committee member, or a regular club member, that you fully understand these rules and I appeal to you all to take the time and read this document carefully.

Guinness World Record Attempt

Cootehill Celtic Hurling are organising a Nationwide Sports Fundraising event on Saturday 4th May starting at 11:30am. They are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest 3 legged race and they need as many clubs as possible to take part on the day. At a recent committee meeting the club decided to be a part of this record breaking attempt and promote this event. All we have to do is get juvenile players, their friends, senior players, club members and indeed anyone within the community that wants to take part in the event to sell five lines at €3.00 each and the club raises money and at the end of the day you will be part of a World Record. It will be a Guinness Book of Records event and when successful, we will break an official Guinness World Record and there will be a Certificate for every participant confirming that they have broken a World Record.

Mr & Mrs Competition

A Mr & Mrs competition will take place on Friday 26th April in St. Mary’s Hall to raise funds for the Cootehill Community Cancer Support Group.
