On behalf of everyone in the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to convey our deepest sympathies to the Fitzpatrick family, relatives and friends on the sudden passing of David Fitzpatrick. Our thoughts and prayers remain with you all during this deeply sad time and may David’s gentle soul rest in eternal peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hAinm Dílis.

Refereeing
If you’re familiar with the classic science fiction films called ‘The Terminator’ you would know the famous catchphrase associated with Arnold Schwarzenegger “I’ll be back”. Likewise, our very own ‘Refereeator’, Nicky Calvert, is back and with his no-nonsense approach is ready and willing to dish out the yellow, red and after the recent GAA congress now black cards! Over the years Nicky has been a marvellous ambassador for the club and has taken charge of quite a few matches during his refereeing career and on behalf of the club I would like to wish him all the best and keep on blowing!
Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12
Our under 12 footballers kicked off their season last Saturday 30th March when they played Magheracloone in the Spring League Zone F competition. The game was played in bitterly cold and windy conditions and I have to say fair-play to all the kids for showing wonderful resilience and well done to all the parents that turned out to support the players. We had a lot young players and they produced some impressive passages of football particularly during the second period when we had the advantage of a strong breeze. All the players worked hard throughout the game and while we had a lot of position the final pass just wasn’t there. Magheracloone, on the other hand, were a stronger outfit and dominated the opening half, giving a fine display of fitness and football, and they went on to win the game well. The next game for the under 12 team is on Saturday 13th April when we play Aughnamullen at Pairc Naomh Mhurie at 12 noon.
Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14
The under 14 team commence their league campaign on Saturday 20th April with a home game against Tyholland in division 4.
Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 16
Our under 16 players will get their first action on Thursday 2nd May with a home game against Tyholland.
GRM Minor Football League Div 3
The next game for our minor team, Rock-Emmets, is on Tuesday 16th April when they take on Inniskeen at 7.00pm.
Go Games Blitz – Under 10
Our under 10 players will get their first taste of action on Saturday 20th April when they take part in the first Go Games Blitz of the year. It takes place in Fergal O’Hanlon’s between 10am to 12noon. Participating clubs include Fergal O’Hanlons, Blackhill, Sean McDermott’s and Drumhowan.
Go Games Blitz – Under 8
The under 8 players will commence their blitz campaign a week later on Saturday 27th April. It will also take place in Fergal O’Hanlon’s between 10am to 12noon and the same clubs will be taking part. Guinness World Record Attempt
You may have heard that Cootehill Celtic Hurling are organising a Nationwide Sports Fundraising event on Saturday 4th May starting at 11:30am. They are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest 3 legged race and they need as many clubs as possible to take part on the day. At a recent committee meeting we decided to be a part of this record breaking attempt and promote this event. The race will take place on participating club grounds throughout the country on Saturday 4th May at 11:30am. The host clubs will raise money by asking participants in the race to sell sponsorship cards with five lines on each card. Cootehill Celtic Hurling will look for one line from each participant’s sponsorship card. This will cover their costs and help them raise funds for their club. We, Rockcorry GAA, would keep the other four lines on every card sold. All we have to do is get juvenile players, their friends, senior players, club members and indeed anyone within the community that wants to take part in the event to sell five lines at €3.00 each and the club raises money and at the end of the day you will be part of a World Record. It will be a Guinness Book of Records event and when successful, we will break an official Guinness World Record and there will be a Certificate for every participant confirming that they have broken a World Record. This event is open to all sports clubs; GAA, Soccer, Rugby, Athletics, Boxing, Cycling, Martial Arts, Cricket, Basketball, Fishing, Hunting & Shooting, Swimming, Tug’o’War, Golf, Equestrian, Walking, etc. Full details of the event and contact details are available at http://www.sportsclubsfundraising.com. If you are interested in taking part then please get in touch.
