NFL promotion caps positive weekend

By michael Sun 7th Apr

In a good weekend for Monaghan GAA, all four county teams in action won important matches.

The minor hurlers started things off on a positive note when they beat Cavan in the Ulster MHL Division Two, before their football counterparts also defeated the Breffni County on Saturday to book their place in the Ulster MFL semi-finals, with goals by Conor McCarthy, Fearghal McMahon and Dónal Meegan winning it for Monaghan.

Sunday saw Monaghan’s male and female senior football representatives pick up comfortable wins over Antrim and Tyrone respectively. The men will now play Meath in the Allianz NFL Division Three Final and have, more importantly, secured promotion, while the ladies take a seven-match winning streak into their NFL Division One semi-final against Mayo.

There was also success for Monaghan clubs at the Ulster Scór Sinsear Finals on Saturday night, with Scotstown winning Tráth na gCeist and Emyvale getting the nod in the set dancing.

Comhgairdeas to the Emyvale Rince Seit dancers and the Scotstown Tráth na gCeist team who won Ulster titles at the Ulster Scór Sinsir finals in Derry on Saturday 6th April .They now go forward to Babhta Ceannais na hÉireann Scór Sinsir in Derry on Saturday 27th April .Go n-eirí an t-adh libh. Hard luck to the Emyvale Ballad group, who while not getting the nod on the night, gave a great performance ,Míle Buiochas
