HARPS HANDBALL

Ulster Win for Monaghan Team

A team that included players from Monaghan Harps and Saint Mellan’s clubs won the Ulster U12/13 team competition final on Tuesday last in Armagh.  It was a very narrow win by 66 points to 63 against a very good Tyrone team.  With all combined scores deciding the winning team the all-important results were as follows:
Cailean Myles and Gary Mohan defeated Ronan and Dara Curran by 15-4, 15-8; Justas Dambinskas and Eoghan Mc Ginnity beat Lorcan Mc Bride aand Cahir Monroe by 15-12, 15-9; and Jakub Szkup and Konrad Kowal lost to Anton fox and Caolan Mc Cartan by 15-2, 15-4.  This was a very close affair and the result could have gone to either team.  The Monaghan team will now face the Munster champions on Sunday in the All-Ireland Semifinal. The venue is expected to be Kingscourt with the winning team facing the Leinster or Connaught champions.
Defeat for Terry and Michael
Terry Mc Elvaney and Michael Mc Carron lost their respective All-Ireland titles to Galway’s Martin Mulkerrins and Carlow’s John Rossiter.  Both matches were won in straight games.  Mulkerrin’s won 21-12, 21-2 while Rossiter had a 21-10, 21-7 victory.  It was a great achievement for the Monaghan players to reach the finals with the winning players  fully deserving  victory.

MELLANS HANDBALL

All Ireland Final. It was hard luck for Michael Mc Carron’s on Sunday past as he lost his “Diamond Masters A Singles” All Ireland final to John Rossitor from Carlow, Mickey was living with John during play no problem, it was just the power of the Carlow mans serve that was the problem, serving to both left and right sides which such unbelievable power was the winning secret, Mickey lost 2 games straight 21-10, 21-7 and no one in attendance got fault Mickey for his effort, and as was said at the presentation the best man on the day won, again well done Michael on reaching the final.

Junior County Final. It was also a hard luck story for Eamon Todd’s as he lost his Junior County Final to Conor O’ Gorman from Carrickmacross, having won the first game 21-14 he lost his way a little and at one stage found himself  8-18 down but some how clawed back to 19-19 then it went 20-20 and in fact his winning point was a re-play and he was put out of serve and lost the game 20-21, and going into the 3rd game the stuffing was knocked out of Eamon and probably not able to believe he was still in the alley lost the decider 21-8, it’s a fine line between success and defeat and unfortunately Eamon fell on the wrong side, hard luck Eamon.

Senior County Final. Padraig Mc Kenna’s senior final was cancelled where he was taking on reining county champion Terry Keirnan, it will not be played this weekend but may be played the following weekend, when we receive confirmation all details will be published.

Nov4 Doubles County Final. The much awaited Nov4 County Doubles final between Brian Mc Kenna(O) & Aidan Kerr and Gary & Christopher Todd may take place either next Tuesday or Wednesday evening, but when it is finalised  Kevin will send out a text to all as to which day it is fixed on and at what time.

Juvenile County Doubles. A list of the doubles both girls & boys that are entered into the county doubles for our juveniles is on display at both alleys so keep practicing as this will be the last juvenile outing of the year, these games will be played off very soon so keep going and try and go out on a high boys and girls.

GAA Leagues. The GAA League final was fixed for Wednesday past but was cancelled at the last minute and is now re-fixed for tomorrow night Friday the 12th in Tydavnet @ 7:30pm where they take on Corduff, good luck to all concerned.

Adult Club Competitions. Singles are at final stages now and both games will be fixed shortly after a few county finals have been played first. There are now fixtures up for all both sections in the club doubles competitions, the High House and the Coalisland Fireplace Doubles have been emailed out and are on the notice board in St.Mellans, please keep all the games played up to date as much as possible.

St Macartans One Wall Ulster Title.  Congratulations to Ryan Mohan as he was part of The Sem’s team that won the U15 One Wall Competition, Colm Mc Anespie, James Mc Kenna and Gary Mc Kenna also played in the team that won but Ryan was the only member of the whole team that played through out the whole competition, well done boys, also hard luck to Aaron Mohan, Finbar Mc Ginn and Cormac Mc Kenna who also played in the same tournament in the 1st year team but lost by a single point to eventual winners in Holy Cross, well done to all the boys.
