Reserve Senior football

The Reserve football League Division Three continued last week, with a home fixture against Blackhill in Scotshouse. This was an excellent game of football contested evenly by both teams. All the way through both teams were well matched and Currin led narrowly at half time, after some fine point taking from captain Niall, Cian North and Enda Mc Caffrey, but in the second half we came more into the game and went on to win, with two points to spare, at the end. Final Score, Currin 0-11, Blackhill 0-9. Team, Fergal Connolly, Dara Brady , Sean Brady, Marc Connolly, Stephen Beattie, Enda Mc Caffrey,  Jonathon O Connor, Ciaran Kearns, Paddy Mc Dermott, Aaron Casey, Niall Mc Entee (c), Shane O Connor, Daniel Mc Entee, Cian North , Ryan Beattie . Subs: (used) Seamus Mc Quaid, Shane Brady. A feature of the game was the two penalty saves for both sides and the point taking of Enda who scored a majestic ‘45’ at a crucial time in the second half. Next game is away to Emyvale, tomorrow, Friday 3rd May at 7.30.p.m.

Youth Affairs

U-12s had their last games in the spring league on Saturday last in Clones. The 9 a-side team got off to a good start playing some nice football with Shane Duffy and Owen Fitzpatrick trying very hard in defence and Luke Rooney and Kirsty Mc Phillips providing the goods up front. However as the game progressed a much stronger Monaghan Harps team pulled away and ran out winners. The 11 a-side team also played Monaghan Harps. This game turned out to be a cracking match. Tiarnan Kearns and Danny Mc Quaid were outstanding in defence and after the first half both sides were level with 4 points a piece. After putting in such a huge effort in the first half the lads started to run out of steam but not before Jack Mc Quaid and James Mc Quaid tagged on a couple of scores. Monaghan with a stronger bench brought in fresh legs and ran out winners on a score line of 12 points to 6.  Congratulations to all the boys who can hold their heads high after competing with a Division1 side for most of the game. Training continues as usual and texts will be sent out regarding times and venues.

U-16,  had their last challenge match on Thursday last against Latton before the league kicks off, tonight, Thursday, in Aghabog. Good luck to Niall, ‘ba ha’, Enda,’snoopy’ and all the lads. Your support would be much appreciated

County Football

Well done  to the Monaghan senior men who successfully defeated Meath on Saturday last in Croke Park. A fantastic start saw Monaghan build up a lead that laid the foundations for a good victory. ‘Nothing beats winning’ is the phrase that sums up this win. A huge congratulations to Dick, Stephen, and Jack on being part of a victorious Monaghan team in a national final, played in Croke Park. Three players representing a small club like ours is something to be appreciated and celebrated.

Commiserations to Laura and Ellen who relinquished their Ladies NFL crown on Sunday last to Ciara Staunton. They can now get themselves ready for the championship and have their eyes firmly set on the big prize.
