With the playing season in full swing it is a full-time job keeping ‘up to speed’ with all that is happening – much less writing about it!!
In terms of match results our seniors suffered defeat to Truagh in their first match in the Monaghan League and then on Monday evening last scored a good victory over Port Mór, in the Armagh League. It is noteworthy the important role played by newcomers to the panel such as Sinéad Mohan, Katie McNally, Clíona McDonald, Shauna McKeever and Nathalie Nahr. These young girls, all still U- 16, are not only contributing much and gaining valuable experience, but they enable our senior panel to field a full squad at a time of year when more senior players are unavailable through work/studies etc. Well done girls and keep up the good work!!
The Clontibret v Castleblayney match scheduled for Thursday last failed to materialise as the appointed referee didn’t show up while Inniskeen conceded their league fixture against Clontibret on Tuesday evening. Next Wednesday, April 24th, Clontibret hosts St. Brigid’s in the Armagh League.
Well done to a number of our senior players who attended county senior training on Saturday evening last in Cloghan. Training takes place again tomorrow, Wednesday, April 18th at 7.30 with Paul Monahan in charge. Club training also takes place on Wednesday for seniors and underage players at 8pm (please note change of time).
Our U-16 panel had a facile win over Aghagallon on Tuesday last. They play St. Kevin’s (Louth) on Monday evening (22nd) and Castleblayney on Fri. 26th. Both games are away fixtures. We wish the players continued success. County training for our U-16s takes place on Saturday morning at 11.00am in Cloghan. It is hoped as many of our girls as possible will attend.
Our U-14 panel suffered a defeat at the hands of Keady last evening. To be fair to the girls they never stopped trying and were a credit, but as they are definitely ‘boxing well above their weight’ in Division 1 this year, each game will be an opportunity to improve and develop their skills and sharpness. Many thanks to Marie, who refereed, and the parents who provided transport. Their next game is on April 30th when we host Madden in Clontibret.
Of course the ‘big news’ this past fortnight was the engagement of our esteemed Chairman, Shauna, to Enda McKenna!! This news generated much delight as Shauna is such a popular, diligent player and officer – not just at club level but at county level as well, where she is the recording secretary. Coupled with the fact that this is the first engagement among the current bunch of senior players, the best wishes of all the club members are extended to Shauna and Enda.
Speaking of engagements, the club also extends every good wish to county stalwarts Siobhan McKenna (Truagh) and Isobel Kieran (Inniskeen) both of whom got engaged recently to their respective beaux.
And what about the Walsh Family, Chapel Brae Court, who won the county final of the Monaghan Camogie Board Table Quiz held recently in Blackhill? They netted themselves a cool €300. Congratulations on bringing the first county title back to the club!
Also celebrating recently was Amy Gorman, and her twin brother, Shea, who became teenagers last weekend, and Sophie Silvester whose 11th birthday was celebrated on Friday.
Best wishes to Sinéad Mohan who will box in the Ulster final of the Ladies 53kg in Derry on Sunday next.
Best wishes also to Jennifer, Katie and Clíodhna and all the children in Sixth Class Scoil Mhuire, who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this Friday evening in St Michael’s Church, Annayalla.
Finally the sympathy of the club is extended to U-12 player, Cliódhna Moran, and the Kennedy/Moran family on the recent death of Frank Kennedy, Clíodhna’s grandad, which took place in Dublin on Saturday week last. Also to Michael Duffy and the Duffy/McAdam family on the tragic death of Michal’s cousin, Gene, in Australia.
