Club Merchandise: We launched the club merchandise last week, Joanne Reihill presented the range which includes Jackets, Hoodies, Polos, Jerseys etc. available in all sizes and at competitive prices, included in the range is the O’Neills brand, which we all know is very hard-wearing. These are available for order and are on display in Morgans’ window on Fermanagh St. If there’s any confirmation money left after last weekend you could do worse than invest in the club merchandise.
Eugene Hamill will be in SuperValu with the Sam Maguire Photographs next Saturday the 4th May, call in and collect your professional images.
Senior Team; The Senior team gained a very valuable two points against Drumhowan on Wednesday evening last. In what was an improved performance and Clones proved too good for a subdued Drumhowan team. It was great to finally get a win under our belts having finished a close second on our two previous encounters. It was Inniskeen on Sunday with a 2:00pm throw-in next and again Clones had a great start with an early goal from Emmet Mc Entee, Clones were five points to no score at this stage with the everything going well. Our big players were performing well with Fintan Kelly, Darren Freeman, Ethan Audley and Daragh Holland all showing well. In a relatively clean but hard-hitting affair Inniskeen had their centre-forward sent of on a second yellow and it looked good for Clones. Two points in front and an extra man Clones were in the ascendancy. But sport can be cruel at times and how many times have we seen a spirited 14 man team overcome their numerical disadvantage? Inniskeen scored a fortuitous goal and the wheels started to come off. And so it was from a good start and numerical advantage Clones came out in the second half and went from confident and capable to error strewn and unsure of the game plan. Credit must be given to Inniskeen who didn’t miss a thing on the day. Team: Colly McCaughey, Paul Connolly, Danny Rooney, Eugene Holland, Daragh Graham, Declan McQuaid, Ciaran Kelly, Adrain Alford {C}, Fintan Kelly, Ethan Audely, Sarto Quigley, David Freeman, Emmet mcEntee, Darren Freeman, Daragh Holland. Subs Used: Eoin Kelly, Eddie Treanor, James Gibson, Nial Maguire, Cian O Connor.
Clones are a better team than they showed on Sunday and we hope to see the lads at their best against Aughnamullen away on Wednesday the 1st of May throw-in at 7:15pm.
Reserves: the reserves played Toome away yesterday the 24th, match report next week. Of course you can check our Facebook page for results. There is then a big gap then until their next game on the 5th of June against Eire Og which is a home fixture.
Minors; this amalgamated team currently lie joint top of the league; they had a great win against Doohamlet on Tuesday night last 4:13 to 2:17. In what was a very spirited and compelling encounter Clones went 3 points up playing into the wind early in the first half only to succumb to Doohamlet pressure and go in at the break 3 points behind. You could see that both teams had given a lot in the first half but gathered themselves very well and showed great character to compete in the second half in what was a very entertaining game. Scores from Kevin Reilly 1:02, Micheal Morgan 1:00, Dermot Gleeson 1:04, Mattie Mc Elvaney 1:00 along with fine points from James Mealiff, Cian O’Connor and Micheal Tierney put this game beyond Doohamlet’s reach. Shane Slowey who deputised for the injured Corey McAree in goals played very well also. They played at home on Tuesday against Killevan, this will have been an interesting tussle as a lot of the lads go to school together. Match report next week. Their next match is away to Corduff 7:15pm throw-in on the 30th of April.
Under 16’s; the lads match against Emerald Sarsfields last Thursday was postponed and replayed on Wednesday in Blackhill. Their next match is against Aughnamullen on May 2nd at home support if you can.
Under 14’s; The U14 Division 1 team tasted defeat against Monaghan Harps last Saturday on a score line of 1:07 to 3:14 despite the lopsided score line Clones competed well for most of the game and gave their all to the final whistle. These are a good bunch of players and the have the heart for it. It can be seen each week that they’re benefiting from Division 1 football, it’s difficult for them yes but they’ll be the stronger for it next season. The U14 B team collected both points as Monaghan Harps conceded the second game as they couldn’t field a team.
Under 12’s – training continues as usual for the under 12’s whose matches are on alternative weeks, their next fixture is this Saturday against Monaghan Harps in Scotshouse. Throw-in 12pm.
Juvenile; Our U10’s competed in a Juvenile blitz competition on Saturday last. Winning 2 of the three games and losing the other they participated very well and there can be no doubt that there’s lots of talent coming through. Congratulations to our Go Games referees who were more than efficient and effective in their duties.
Best wishes to Jimmy Connolly who continues to recover in hospital following surgery last week. Our best wishes go out to him, Kathleen and the boys.
