Sam Maguire is coming to Clones on Thursday the 11th of April. This is a wonderful occasion for the club and we’d be hopeful of a big turnout in the Creighton that evening. There’ll be a chance for everyone young and old for a photograph, we’re also going to use this as an opportunity to launch the clubs merchandise which will be available for sale on the night and also available for order. We’ll have Jersey’s, Hoodies, Beanies, Umbrellas, Mugs, Pens, Balls, Water Bottles and much more. Stay tuned to the Facebook page for a more detailed itinerary of events.
Senior Team; The Senior started their season with against Donaghmoyne on Sunday. Clones played some immense football in the first half, stringing together some fine passages of play and some great scores particularly from Daragh Holland and the Freeman brothers. Fintan Kelly marshalled affairs in midfield and we definitely didn’t look out of place in intermediate football. Despite missing a few opportunities in the first half Clones went in at Half Time five points up. However the old adage of ‘a game of 2 halves’ was never more accurate, whatever advantage we had in the first half was with Donaghamoyne in the 2nd half. Clones conceded a goal in the first few minutes of the 2nd half, we had a game on our hands. Playing against the wind, Clones weren’t as fluent as before. Our play was more error strewn; Donaghmoyne had a strong subs bench and that wee bit of intermediate savvy to see them squeeze out the win. Although we may have lost this game a lot can be garnered from our first half performance in particular. I’m sure the management will focus on this and we can look forward with no fear, other players of note included Declan McQuaid, Paul Shiels & Danny Rooney.
Minor Training; back this week in Smithboro on Thursday night, could all players meet on the diamond for 7pm. St. Tiarnachs played Emerald Sarsfields on Tuesday, match report next week.
Under 16’s; training continues on “The holy ground” every Monday and Wednesday. Our Under 16’s are playing Eire-Og in Smithboro this evening at 7pm. All the winter training should stand the lads in good stead, best of luck lads. Support if you can.
Under 14’s; this team amalgamated with Currin are also playing this evening at 6:30 against Truagh in their first match of the Division 1 league. So I’m sure that our boys will be well up for it. Best of luck to the team, please get up and support the lads if you can. The team have another match this week against Inniskeen which will take place on Saturday.
Under 12’s – Both teams played against Emyvale on Saturday, first up Team 2 who competed extremely well in a very tight game, working particularly hard in a game where scores where hard to come by the edged out winners by a point 0:09 to 0:08. Jason Lynch, James Cadden, Jenny Freeman, Kevin McPhillips, Oisin Kearns & Captain Jordan McCabe all got their names on the score sheet. Team 1 played next against a more experienced team competed more than admirably, Maitiu Monaghan, Jamie McQuillan, Tiarnan Kearns, Colm Smyth and Jack McQuaid all played their part but unfortunately this time their effort wasn’t enough to secure the win. The great team work, cohesive play and endeavour shown by both our teams bode well for future games.
Juveniles- Well done to all the Juveniles who took part in the Easter camp in the field this week, special thanks to the County Coaching Staff and County Players, Kieran Hughes, Fintan Kelly, Sharon Courtney, Ellen McCarron & Catriona McConnell.
Go Games Refereeing we had 10 lads who took part in the juvenile refereeing course last week. Well done, the lads will start their refereeing at the end of the month.
