On Thursday last Monaghan Coaching and Games Development held a Secondary School Hurling Blitz/Coaching day in Cloghan. Three schools availed of this coaching day, St Macartans, Beech Hill and Our Ladys Castleblayney. Overall 65 students took part, 15 girls and 50 boys. All other schools were invited but, due to lack of interest and a clash with other events, did not attend.
Ronan Mc Williams, Regional Hurling Officer from Ulster Council was with us and he worked with a group of players who never played hurling before. The rest of the students were split up into six teams and we ran off a blitz with them. Pauric Dowdall and Brid Treanor from Monaghan Coaching and Games Development staff were the coaches on the day. Also a thank you to Pat Meehan for stepping in and refereeing during the blitz.
A big thank you to the schools that took part, also to the coaches and Cloghan for the use of their facilities.
