It was an encouraging few days for Monaghan’s county teams, starting with the Under-21 footballers’ Shamrock Cup Final victory against Tyrone on Wednesday. The senior footballers finished the weekend at the top of the Allianz National Football League Division Three after their win over Fermanagh on Saturday, followed by Cavan’s draw in Sligo on Sunday.
The ladies also sit top of their league (Division One) after their defeat of Mayo in Aughnamullen on Sunday, which stretched their 100% run to four games.
There was no luck, however, for the senior hurlers, who let a half-time lead slip when losing with 14 men against Fingal in Inniskeen in their second Allianz National Hurling League Division 3A fixture on Sunday.
Magheracloone and Latton share top spot in the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division 1A after they beat Castleblayney and Monaghan Harps respectively on Sunday, while Clontibret edged out Scotstown. Truagh lead the way in Division 1B after their win over Doohamlet, while Drumhowan and Tyholland got off the mark with wins over Cremartin and Ballybay. Donaghmoyne made it two wins in Division 2A by easing past Carrickmacross, while Aughnamullen got the better of Seán McDermotts in Division 2B. Clones and Emyvale had wins in Division 3 at the expense of Currin and Feargal O’Hanlons.
