Round-up (March 30-31)

By michael Sun 31st Mar

Monaghan’s ladies footballers continued their perfect defence of the NFL Division One title with a comprehensive win over Dublin on Sunday. Goals by Ciara McAnespie (two), Caoimhe Mohan and Therese McNally were the key scores as Monaghan put the Dubs to the sword to make it six wins in a row.

There was no luck for the senior hurlers, who were undone by an unfortunate own goal in a narrow loss to Fermanagh in a low-scoring Allianz National Hurling League Division 3A match on Sunday. They will now face a relegation play-off against Tyrone.

Before all that, the county’s minor footballers got off the mark in the Ulster MFL with a come-from-behind win over Armagh on Saturday.

The Drumlin Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League got underway on Saturday, when a brace of goals by Brian McGinnity saw Scotstown edge out Clontibret. Two games were played on Sunday, with Christopher and Shane McGuinness netting three times between them to inspire Ballybay to a convincing win in Carrickmacross and Monaghan Harps coming from seven points down at half-time to draw with Magheracloone. The game between Rockcorry and Latton was postponed due to a bereavement.

Monaghan Electrical

Drumhowan made an impressive return to the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League by rattling the net four times to defeat Corduff on Saturday. The two teams relegated from senior last year also got off to winning starts. Currin had three points to spare away to Cremartin, while Truagh produced a dominant second-half performance to ease past Aughnamullen. The other IFL game saw Donaghmoyne boss the second period to get the better of Clones.

Eurotech

Seán McDermotts had a double-scores win against neighbours Scotstown’s reserves in the Eurotech Junior Football League on Sunday, while Oram edged out Killeevan and Toome and Éire Óg played out a draw.
