ROCKCORRY G.A.A.
CLUB NOTES
26th March 2013
Drumlin Credit Unions Senior Football League
It’s here; it’s finally arrived, after four months in the wilderness, its back! If you’re like me then you can’t wait for the new football season to begin and I have to say I’m really intrigued and looking forward to the year ahead. In some-way our participation in the top flight of Monaghan football has re-ignited the fire within the club and this weekend our opening match in the senior league campaign takes place against near neighbours Latton. As football and GAA enthusiasts you could not ask for or find a more iconic match to kick-start the season than a Rockcorry v Latton encounter. It’s been a long time, some would say too long, but these two teams have had some classic battles in the past and it’s safe to say that another absorbing contest is on the cards. You don’t have to be a psychic octopus to know that Latton will be hot favourites and rightly so. That’s nothing to be embarrassed about, were the new kid on the block and they have been competing in senior football for quite some time. Let’s face it, the senior league is nothing like what we have been used to and to be honest it will be a big step. It won’t be easy, but that’s what makes football so addictive, so unpredictable and so enjoyable to watch. The lads have worked hard in training over the last couple of weeks and the time has arrived to stop the preseason talking and deliver on the field. So this Easter Sunday (31st March) gather your family & friends and make sure you are in Pairc Naomh Mhuire for a 2.00pm throw-in to enjoy the camaraderie with our neighbours Latton and hopefully experience a humdinger of a football match. Before the season starts I’d like to wish Jim, Cormac and all the lads the best of luck for the year ahead. As the famous baseball player Babe Ruth said “you just can’t beat the person who never gives up”. Enjoy the journey lads and make sure you leave every ounce of energy on the field and I will leave you with another well-known saying “Don’t let them out Easy”!

“Capture the Moment”
I have always agreed with the cliché that “a picture speaks a thousand words” and because this year is a very historic occasion for the club and hopefully will be the beginning of something really special. I am looking for your creativity and vision to capture and record every moment. We all have digital cameras or smart phones that include a mega pixel camera so there are no excuses. All you have to do is capture a moment that relates to the club or our community and provide a brief caption, it’s that simple! The choice is entirely up to you, whatever captures your imagination! All images will be considered and hopefully we will be able to feature them in the clubs annual yearbook which will be published later in the year. Depending on the level of interest we may even decide to hold an exhibition and display all the images that have captured the essence of not only our club but our whole community. There are no guidelines just expand your imagination and let your creative side take control and take that photograph that portrays the mood of the occasion. Submissions are welcome from anyone, any age and from anywhere in the world so get snapping and help build this photo gallery of 2013.
Mr & Mrs Competition
A Mr & Mrs competition will take place on Friday 26th April in St. Mary’s Hall to raise funds for the Cootehill Community Cancer Support Group. Tickets for this event are now on sale and cost €10 each. Master of ceremonies on the night will be Northern Sound’s Breakfast-Roll DJ Sean McCaffrey and music entertainment will be provided by the amazingly talented and colourful character Robert Brown. A number of local couples have already signed up for the competition and I when the line-up of couples has been finalised I will reveal all. So folks, if you want to have a laugh and plenty of craic with the various couples while also supporting a very worthy cause then don’t delay and make sure you get your tickets for the first ever Rockcorry Mr & Mrs competition. Doors on the night will be opening at 9.00pm with the show starting at 9.30pm sharp so please arrive early to claim a seat.
Volunteer & Help
The club relies on the help from volunteers to make it a growing success. If you can offer a couple of hours per week to help out with any aspect of the club whether it is helping with our juvenile teams, coaching the under nursery players, helping out with fund rising, sitting on any our sub-committees or perhaps considering the role of ASAP Officer or Cultural Officer then please make yourself known to any current committee member. We would be delighted to hear from you and would be delighted to see some new faces, so get involved and take an active interest in YOUR club.
