ROCKCORRY G.A.A.
CLUB NOTES
19th March 2013
I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for your generous support of my charity race night last Saturday in Fitzpatrick’s to raise funds for the Irish Heart Foundation and their F.A.S.T Stroke campaign. The support from companies and the many individuals who bought ducks was incredible and it will make a significant step towards my fund raising target. The amount of support and goodwill I received over the last couple of weeks has been overwhelming and I am very thankful for your sponsorship towards the Irish Heart Foundation. If anyone missed the opportunity to buy a duck and would like to make a donation then please get in touch. Once again many thanks.
Man v Food Challenge
As part of the charity race night the last race involved a Man v Food contest. Obviously, raising money for the Irish Heart Foundation we could not expect or demand the participants to eat huge quantities of deep fried food or pig out with mammoth portions of takeaways. This contest was even a bigger challenge, a task so offensively difficult that only the brave and the bold stepped forward to take it on! The Cream Cracker Challenge essentially involved consuming three cream crackers, without a drink, and the person to successfully manage to finish first claimed the coveted title of “Cream Cracker Champion”. After working up a healthy appetite and getting plenty of fluids into the system Johnny Reilly, Stephen Lynch, Andrew Carroll, Sean Rooney, Aaron Clerkin, Noel Hall, Kieran Fitzpatrick and Anthony Clerkin volunteered to take on this titanic challenge. During the contest things reached an insane peak as the lads tucked in and shovelled handfuls of crackers down their necks and while the first cracker disappeared in record time it soon became very clear that it was not as easy as it looked as the mouth started to get very, very dry making it notoriously difficult to eat the crackers rapidly without any liquids. Hot favourite, Noel Hall, got out of the blocks the quickest and set the fast pace but this was no sprint this was a marathon and Aaron “The Bomber” Clerkin steadily and quietly went about his business to claim the first ever ‘Cream Cracker Champion’ title of Rockcorry and congratulations to him. While Aaron savours his new celebrity title after his wonderful victory we have to wait for official confirmation from the Guinness Book of World Records to see if he created a new world record!
