ROCKCORRY G.A.A.

CLUB NOTES

5th March 2013

Sympathy

On behalf of the club I would like to extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Norman Campbell and his family on the recent passing of his wife Liz Campbell. I would also like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the late Malachy Cleary who passed away suddenly last Monday. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both during this sad and difficult time and may they both rest in peace.

Platinum Tanks RFL 2B

Our reserve team kick started their, Platinum Tanks Division 2B, league campaign on Sunday 3rd March when they played Castleblayney at Pairc Naomh Mhuire.  This was a high scoring and very enjoyable game of football and all who attended were treated to a very competitive match where both teams played the game in the proper manner with no quarter asked or given and with good honest enthusiasm and commitment that ended with both teams having to share of the spoils on a final score-line Rockcorry 3-11 Castleblayney 1-17. Please log onto www.rockcorrygaa.ie for a full match report and to view a selection of action photographs. After the game I caught up with our reserve team manager, Gerard O’Brien, and despite the disappointment of his team only securing a share of the spoils he was keen to concentrate on the positives; “it was probably a fair result as they missed some chances as well as us. It was a tight match and in games like these you have to take your chances. The lads gave a good account of themselves and it will be important that we keep our heads up and continue to work hard at training over the coming weeks”. I would like to echo those comments and emphasise it was a good workmanlike performance where all players performed extremely hard as a team and showed they were excited and committed.

Reserve Team Fixtures

The next outing for the reserve team is on Wednesday 3rd April when they travel to Threemilehouse to play Sean McDermott’s at 7.00pm.

Senior Team Fixtures

Our senior football campaign starts on Sunday 31st March with a home game against neighbours Latton. A full set of fixtures has been uploaded to our website at www.rockcorrygaa.ie.

Charity Race Night

Do you like to have a little flutter on the horses? If so, why not kick start your St. Patrick’s weekend by supporting the Irish Heart Foundation because a charity race night, with a twist, will take place on Saturday 16th March in Fitzpatrick’s Bar & Lounge. They say the simplest games are always the most fun and I am hoping that in this case because duck racing has hit the scene. That’s right folks the Donald Duck and Daffy Duck variety!  It may come as a surprise but I have been luckily enough to track down some very athletic and highly nimble ducks that are currently away training at high attitude and will be specially flown in for this mecca event! Now before any animal rights protestors get their panties in a twist, please note that the ducks will be of the ‘toy’ variety! As previously highlighted, this race night will be a night with a difference and is guaranteed to be a fantastic night of fun and racing action. I am hoping & encouraging people to be there on the night to give as much encouragement to your duck as possible because for this night you need only a duck and a straw and the rest they say is up to you! Everyone is welcome to attend and your support is deeply appreciated for this very worthy cause. It promises to be a great night, a great laugh and it’s going to be quacktastic!!!
