The Purpose of these programmes is to keep players active during the winter months, develop skill levels and identify players suitable for development squads. The programme targeted 4th/ 5th and 6th class students in the north of the county.
The programme was held over a six week period starting on the 29th January, with all sessions being held St. Macartans College, Monaghan. Schools represented were Gael Scoil Eois, Edenmore, Urbleshanny, Scoil Mhuire, Monaghan BNS, Clara and Gael Scoil Ultain. Over the six weeks, an improvement could be seen in all the players with the plan being that these players would be the base of an U13/U14 development squad for 2013/14. Coaches who delivered the programme were Pauric Dowdall, Ann Mc Kenna and Brid Treanor.
Plans are in place over the Easter holidays to have a coaching day in Cloghan for all players who attended our After School Programmes in the north and south of the county. Monaghan Coaching and Games will be in touch with all players over the next week.
Last Sunday the players from the After School Programme in the South got to play at halftime in Monaghan`s National Hurling League Game in Inniskeen against Fingal. All players really enjoyed the experience. Similar plans are in place for the players who were involved in the North to play at halftime in the Monaghan v Tyrone National Hurling League game in Inniskeen on the 24th March. Details will be sent out to each player over the coming weeks.
Thanks to all the schools, parents and to St. Macartans College for the use of their facilities.
