Clones

March 5th, 2013

Executive meeting took place on Thursday night last with a very good attendance.  Items on the agenda included the Clones Erne East partnership development that is currently underway; a very detailed and professional presentation was given by Declan McKernan along with photographs supplied by Tommy McCabe.  It was great to see such enormous progress been made.  The matter of Club Merchandise was brought up and I’m pleased to report that there’s an order gone in for Jersey’s, Hoodies and Jackets that will be on sale in the next coming weeks, keep your eyes peeled.

Senior Training continues to go well and the lads played a challenge match against Donagh on Friday night last.  According to Niall it went only ok I’m not sure if that was before or after Micky Slowey rolled back the years with the Clones jersey on his back.  Season will start in earnest on Sunday with reserves playing the first round of the league against Currin.

Minor Training; back this week in Smithboro on Thursday night, could all players meet on the diamond for 7pm.

Juvenile Training is commencing again this coming week, details are as follows; U8’s / U10’s on Tuesday March 5th in Largy College from 5 to 6pm.  U12’s will start on Friday 1st March from 5:30 to 6:30pm in Largy College and 11am to 12:30pm on Sunday the 10th in Currin, we are asking parents to carpool for Sunday morning matches to Currin pich. U14’s got back training on Monday night from 5pm to 6pm and will continue at this time for the coming weeks.  The ask is that parents equip their children with mouthguards.

Mouth-Guards: It is now compulsory in all football matches and training for all age grades up to and including minor to wear a Mouth Guard. No player will be allowed to participate in training or matches without one.  The official GAA & GPA Mouth Guard is now available from SuperValu Clones for a fantastic €7.

Strength and conditioning for under 16’s Monday and Wednesday evening at 6:30 o’clock up in the ‘Holy Ground’.  If you haven’t been attending ‘tighten up’ as you’re gonna be left behind by your peers.

Easter Camp being held this year in St Tiernachs on the 2nd,3rd and 4th of April for 5 to 12 year olds boys and girls. U6/U8 workshop for coaches and parents involved with this group to be held in Scotstown this evening at 7-30pm your attendance would be welcomed.  Under 15 Football Blitz to be held in Cloghan on Friday 15th and Thursday 21st from 7 to 9:30pm.  Your coaches will be in contact.

Coaches:  Underage coaching in Scotstown on Thursday evenings, for all mentors and coaches of U8’s, U10s, U12’s and It goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway that the better equipped our coaches are the better the training sessions and matches will be.  “Fail to Prepare, Prepare to Fail” Contact Phelim for details.

Mothering Sunday It would be remiss of me not to mention the mother’s in the club this Sunday, the club wouldn’t survive if it wasn’t for the Mna Na h’Eireann, hope you all get spoiled on Sunday you deserve it.

Congratulations to a couple of our ex players is due this week.  To Darren and Laura Connolly and who celebrated the birth of their Daughter Jessie and to Brian and Sharon Lynch on the birth of their daughter Genna.  To Colm and Catherine Lennon who celebrated their marriage last week, best wishes to you all from everyone in the club.

Deepest Sympathy it was with a heavy heart that we said goodbye to Philomena Hughes last week after a short illness.  Philomena graced the field for Clones on many Camogie teams over the years and was a lifetime supporter of the club.  Philomena will be sorely missed by us all and we extend our deepest sympathies to her husband Stephen, daughters Mary and Carmel and families.
