Clontibret Camogie Club

Well the time for ‘putting your money where your mouth is’ has definitely arrived and on Sunday our seniors play their first competitive matches of 2013 when they participate in the Senior Blitz, which has been switched to Clontibret, and starts at 12 noon.

Clontibret take on Truagh first, followed by Inniskeen and finally Castleblayney. Traditionally this is a competition where we have tended to give our newer, younger members their first taste of the game at senior level and this year will be no exception. However, as the Club has never won this competition, perhaps it’s a good opportunity to set out our stall for the year ahead.  Players are asked to meet at the pitch at 11.15 sharp on Sunday.

Armagh Board launched their fixtures booklet on Monday evening last. Some interesting observations – especially for our younger players! Our U-16 and U-14 teams will play their matches on alternating Tuesday evenings from April 9 to Sept 10. First off is the U-16 team who host Aghagallon on April 9 while our U-14 team, who apparently have been promoted to Division 1, following the withdrawal of Castleblayney from U-14 competition in Armagh this year, open their season with a trip to Keady on April 16! This team face a tough schedule of matches but if the determination and doggedness of last year’s panel is anything to go by, they will emerge stronger and unscathed at the end of the year.

The club had applied to play in Division 1 at senior level in Armagh (a drop from Premier Division) and we host Castleblayney on April 10in the first match of this competition. However the girls will have played Truagh on Sunday April 7 in the Monaghan League beforehand.

Under 12 Go Games Blitzes take place on Saturday April 13, April 27, May 4, May 11 and May 18 and the team must play in 3 before being allowed to play in the U-12 League.

So a busy start to April by the looks of things!

Registration for all our underage players takes place on Thursday evening, March 7th, at 7.45 and concludes at 8.15. This meeting is scheduled to take place in the Community Centre but due to dancers in every nook and cranny this past few weeks rehearsing for ‘So you think you can Dance’ an exact room has not yet been allocated. Registration for all U-16 players is €15 and parents may join the club for €5.Following a short presentation on the Code of Behaviour for our players, both parents and players will be required to complete the Registration form and Code of Behaviour acceptance form.  A draw for a club hoodie will then take place for those who have just registered. Senior players and members are reminded that their registration is now due and the €35 can be paid to Marie on or before Sunday.

Many thanks to Marie, Catherine, Karen K, Nicola and Shauna F who attended and represented the club at the Monaghan Board meeting on Tuesday evening.

And with the deadline of March 22 drawing ever closer preparations for ‘So you think you can Dance’ have really intensified. Participants, which include Marie, Tara and Eleanor, have been seen jogging the roads/fields/beaches of Louth, cycling, abseiling, skipping, mountain-climbing, hill-walking and swimming complete with headphones blasting their chosen dance music. Anything to give them an edge over their rivals … and impress the judges on the night!!! Tickets have gone on sale and the parish is awash with PR material! So don’t miss out on what promises to be a wonderful start to Clontibret O Neills ‘Club 100’ celebrations.

Finally congratulations to Eleanor who has taken up an appointment as a physiotherapist in Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital this week.
