National Football League: There was disappointment for Monaghan last weekend as they fell to their first league defeat of the season away to Cavan. Sligo will be the next opposition when they visit Clones on March 3rd.

Ulster Inter-Provincial squad: Darren Hughes retains the Ulster captaincy for this year’s competition. Ulster will begin their defence of the trophy against Munster this Sunday at 2:15pm in the Athletic Grounds, Armagh. Both provinces meet each other in the Hurling at the same venue, throwing in at 12:30pm.

Scotstown GAA draw: Monday night saw the launch of the Scotstown GAA Draw. The club are embarking on major developments at the Kilmore East training grounds, and this fundraising draw will be the major source of the income required to match the funding already secured through grants. The first prize in the draw is a top of the range Seat Ibiza car, with the second prize a “get away from it all” luxury cruise. There are cash prizes of €1000, and two of €500 and the sixth prize in the draw will be for a pair of 2013 All-Ireland Football Final tickets. Tickets for the draw are available from committee members priced at €20 each, or three for €50. The draw itself will take place in August. Club members are requested to attend a meeting in connection with the draw at the Complex on Friday night at 9pm.

Juvenile Championships: The draw for the juvenile championships was made recently. In the Under 16 Division One Championship, Scotstown have been drawn to face St. Patrick’s (a combination of Ballybay and Drumhowan) in the Quarter-Finals. In the Under 14 Division One Championship, Scotstown will face neighbours Truagh Gaels. The Under 14 B team will play the winners of Monaghan Harps v. Truagh in the Division Five Championship semi-final. Times and dates for these fixtures have yet to be decided.

Spring Coaching Courses: February sees a range of various coaching courses being presented in order to assist in the development of our coaches. Anyone interested in taking on a role with our juvenile teams this year is encouraged to complete at least one of the courses available, depending on their level of completion to date. 1: Foundation level course is on Fri 15th and Sat 16th of February; 2: Level 1 Youth Adult is on Fri 22nd, Sat 23rd and Sun 24th of February. Anyone who wishes to accept a place at any of these courses is asked to contact David McCague on 087-6202242 to book their place.

Club Membership: Club membership fees for 2013 can now be paid to Frankie McCarey, Cormac Sherry or Matt McCrudden. The fee is €30 for adults, and €10 for juveniles. Corporate membership is available for €150 which also includes Ciste subscription for the year, and entry to all home games for the season.

Sem Gala Ball: Saint Macartan’s College, Monaghan celebrate 100 years of Gaelic Games in the college this year. To mark this milestone, the college is inviting all past pupils to a special Centenary Gala Ball this Saturday, February 16th in the Hillgrove Hotel. There are many past pupils within the club, and this is a great opportunity for them to support their “alma mater”. All proceeds will go to the redevelopment of the “bottom pitch”. Congratulations: Well done to Dónal McCague who picked up the Young Traditional Musician of the Year prize at the TG4 Gradam Ceoil awards recently.

Conversational Irish: The Ciorcal Gaeilge continues each Tuesday night at 8:30pm in the Sports Complex, Scotstown. It’s an informal meeting for adults who wish to learn, use or brush up on their “cúpla focail”. Fáilte roimh gach duine!

Bar Rota: Niall McKenna will be on duty this weekend.

Ladies Club Parents Meeting: An important meeting will take place for parents of all members playing football with Scotstown Ladies on Monday the 18th of February at 8pm in Scotstown Complex. A large attendance is expected to discuss the future of your children playing for the club.
